Batons?

Anyone else have any batons? I have a 21" electroless ASP, a PR24 with Trumbull Stop, and an old wooden militray MP nightstick.

Been wondering about those monadnock ballbearing lock batons. Anyone have one?

I was also thinking about how cool (and impractical

) a double-sided ASP would be == like Darth Maul's lightsaber!

Hi CD.
I have the 16" ASP, the 21" nickel ASP, a wooden nightstick with thong, a PR-24STS, Monadnock police nunchaku (made of the same stuff the PR-24 is), a small round spring handle sap, and a blue Mark MacGuire signiture T-ball bat which works well one handed or two (carry that in your car with a glove and a ball for best legal results). Then there's my CaneMasters cane, which I have with me about half the time. I'm working on strengthening my Rubber Maid aluminum cheapie "stealth cane" with a full length "lower" tube. Or maybe I'll go with a STEEL tube!

Haven't tried any other expanding batons.

For the "impact Darth Maul" effect, just weld two ASP endcaps together.

As for me, I prefer to go outside on a foggy night and swing one of my Maglites around making zoo-zwoosh noises.

I don't do that too often.

I am no expert, so sorry if what I assume isn't actually the case in the 'Real World'.

Batons like the ASP are illegal in the UK, but I demo'd what I think was an ASP with 6V SureFire BatonLight (with P61). The baton was the solid version - not the cheaper [lighter] hollow one used by some of the English Police.

These ASP batons are nasty. They are incredible! I was shown how to handle them with a BatonLight for maximum impact. 'Flick' to extend - gets the BG's attention - then blind and strike if required. Apparently, the blinding causes the BG's guard to drop which makes neutralising easier, faster and more effective.

I believe the aim is to overwhelm then to overpower resulting in the neutralisation of the threat using force if required.

Not often to weapons have two 'bad ends'!

Blinded or Whacked?!

Is this what it's like in 'Real Life'?
Has anyone used these for real?

Karl -- Wow, that's quite a collection of impact weapons. Never seen a monadnock nunchacku before. I need a good sap (Did you see "Mulholland Falls"? Nick Nolte used a sap to good effect in that movie).

Welding the endcaps together. Hmmm... Wonder what the optimal length the ASPs should be is...?

Al -- I asked one of my cop friends why he didn't use a baton light and he said that one of the things they teach you in the ASP class is to use the butt of the closed baton to strike; hence, he felt that would be a bad place to have a light. He also said the only time he ever used his ASP was to break out a car window, so go figure

Thanks,

From what I could tell, the Shock Isolation of the BatonLight Bezel looked even more impressive than the other SureFire WeaponLights'...
The guy gave me the impression that it was perfectly okay to use the Light as an impact tool. However, if the fact you've installed a light means you'd hesitate to use that end of your baton because you put the light at risk, then I suppose the light is too much of a liability. This liability would be reduced by the proper force-on-force training, and real-world demos of what kit can do/take...

Most things that aren't can be used twice as a hammer. The first impact damages it beyond repair and the second blow smashes it beyond all recognition!

I carry an asp, but I have replaced the factory end cap with an ASP authorized accessory that looks like a mushroom. it lets you lock in your little finger for better retention, and gives you another 2 inches of effective reach! it also gives a nice surface to strike with (end jab) without having to worry about your baton sliding out of your grasp. I have a prototype Manodnock collapsible baton with a side handle (like a PR24) but its built out of thin steel tubing like an ASP. I sent it back once for repairs, and over the phone Monadnock claimed they had never made such a product, but it has their stamp on the main tube 1/2 way between the Aluminum side handle and the end cap. strangely enough I sent it to them broken (the tubes seperated during violent deployment (Major OOPS)) and they sent it back repaired!! Collapsed, the baton is only 7" (length of the main tube) but deployed it is 17" with a 4" side handle. this is long enough to protect my entire forearm, as well as long enough to generate some speed on a spin. the poly and Aluminum collapsible they currently sell is HUGE, even collapsed. The only thing I can imagine is they ran into a Patent complaint. Too Bad!!! great product in a small package. I LOVE mine

I have a PR24 I was issued (I'm an MP), but that is it. I don't really care for them outside of hitting combatant drunks with them.
