Has anybody compared the BATAC LE and SAR4 LE? They are both around the same price and I'm not sure which one is best. Any Opinions?

I have wondered the same thing on the BATACLE.

Additionally, can anyone toss in a BAe comparison as well?
Pics, thoughts, etc.

I've been playing with both the SAR4 LE and the BATAC LE since the SAR 4 showed up.
No real outdoor use yet, but I like the BATAC LE better. :o

Mainly for the finger size choil on the BATAC.
Secondly, as much as everybody hate the TAC handle...
The TAC feels better in the hand than the new SAR handle design IMHO.

I love the look of the new SAR4... and I really like the blade shape,
and the pattern on the handle. But for use... I think I'll stick with the BATAC LE.

The BATAC LE has a little more heft for chopping if you need it,
The blade extends further out when you grip further back on the handle...
and you can choke up on the blade with the finger choil for the finer work.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I like 'em both but am leaning towards the BATAC LE just for its porkishness. My badger's edge is also much sharper. But the SAR4 is so coooool that it's basically a toss up between the two, so I'll just stick with the CGFBM.

I found the BATACLE to be too fat. Preferred a regular BATAC. For SAR, the SAR4LE is a better bet than a BATAC. Which would I prefer??? I dunno. I'm fond of the SAR4 for now. I'll have to use it a bit to decide which is better in the field.

I just never got warmed up to the BATACLE. Too fat.

The BATAC LE was too fat for me so I passed it on to a home that would appreciate its heft. I like thin blades on knives under 7".

I don't have a SAR4 for comparison.

Good question. They both seem to be similar knives in overall length. I sold my BATACLE because I felt it was ridiculously thick and heavy for a knife of that blade size. I think my Les Baer weighs less. ;) Still, that being said it was a beautiful knife and i really liked the looks of it.

The only downside I see on the SAR4 is the over-sized (length) handle. It appears the the handle is longer than the blade... which gives it an unbalanced appearance (hence the folder comparisons...). Still, it is a beautiful knife and I welcome the design innovations.

As noted, they are a similar size. I find myself liking the SAR4 in hand a little better, though you cannot choke up quite as nicely as with the large choil on the BATACLE. However, with that choil comes a sacrifice in edge length. Here are some crappy camera phone pics.

OK, OK... the more I hold the SAR4,
the more I like it. :o

It is damn sweet lookin'! :D

Might just have to break down and use one.
But maybe I'll wait for the satin & green linens!

Come on Boss... bring on the Satin & GL!!!

Wow I think that is the first picture I have really gotten a good look at a full on spine shot.......

I now greatly regret not jumping in on the feast!:grumpy:

I have not held the SAR but I owned a BATAC LE for a while. I would definitely get the SAR4 between the two. The BATAC LE is a serious chunk of INFI and is heavy. Both are going to be handle heavy but the SAR looks right to me in that size range. I also LOVE what Jerry is doing with convex primary grinds (looks like zero edge on the SAR4 LE?). SOOOO nice.
