Thank you shipping staff, Bill, and the batterer.
Hell, I can screw up a blade more than this!.
But, I would not have returned it. The darned thing is a tool. (I Blame the Starbuck's generation, and razor-cut hair cuts for men. H*ll in a handbasket, if you ask me.)
Anyway, rust gone, three inch horn handle crack fixed (took more epoxy than any other repair I can remember), blade edge smooth and sharp, if not quite the curve it came with, top smooth and rust-free. Blade more satin than BirGorkha would do, but with the exception of deep etching from the rust, smooth now...maybe more 600 grit will fix that...either way, a non-issue.
Gouges in blade are another story. They are very deep. I've gotten them down to the point where fingertips can not feel most of them, but they are visible. Not sure it's worth the effort, but maybe just monotonous sanding during TV shows will address them.
Weighs in about the same as my 15 Bura AK, also a blem. AK a bit blade-heavier, but not a great deal. Nicely done sword of Shiva, again a non-issue for me. This is Amtrak's 15 in BAS. Good work, clean lines.
It must have been used to attempt to cut hard metal. Score lines are on both sides of blade, but in different places.
As Bill said, tlc... or just general maintenance...and this is only a blem in HI's eyes. To others, it would be a lovely, hand-made tool.
Thank you, Bill.
edit to add: ground off a little of the top of handle butt to eliminate palm poking. Much more user-friendly. Just lopped some shrubs, then split some slab wood with a baton. Very nice tool.
My size preference (aside from the Bura 15AK) is 12 in. AND, I'm not a collector, but this is a lovely knife.
