Battery life - your rotation or test routines?

Mine is catch as catch can...or when a flashlight, range finder, GPS, camera, rifle or pistol weapons sight/lights or hand held radio doesn't work or is scheduled for more than routine stand-by duty I replace batteries.

I use D, lithium AA and AAA, CR123 and various coin sizes such as CR 2032...over my lifetime to date have ruined a few D cell stand-by flashlights but that's it.

Today was the day to check power up/ battery strength and look for corrosion - other than replacing a weak 9V in a Leica range finder and removing AAs from an unused Holosight think I'm good to go. I do replace AR and AK batts semi-annually.

Outside of having spare batteries at hand, curious if others had battery experience, rotation or testing routines that worked well for you.

Best.

I charge up the Eneloop AAs at the beginning of hurricane season, and stick them back on the charger with any approaching tropical storm (I've been trying to standardize to the AAs), along with a pair of 18v for the Rigid cordless ,and a couple of 12v auto batteries...weapon's lights are cr123s and also a couple of SureFires, Streamlight, and SolarForce hand helds....so I have a couple of backups... I do have a 2D LED Maglight and my ceiling fan motor is D powered.... just buy a pack of D batteries at the beginning of the season....my keychain is a AAA lithium.... so I guess the answer is once a year, unless they need it sooner... I replace the smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries on my birthday....

I'm pretty simple. All rechargeable, with spare sets for the most commonly used items that get swapped out once a month, or sooner if needed in the case of my EDC light.

I also keep a small box of standard alkaline batteries of each type that I might need, in case stuff like the smoke detectors start going out.

I have a collection of rechargeable batteries with charged up batteries ready for use when other batteries need to be swapped out of devices to be charged. I carry an extra set of fully charged batteries, and if I go away I take a small cheap charger with me. Buying throwaway batteries is pointless as well as inconvenient with the battery technology available today.

I have plenty of Eneloop Batteries and to tell you the truth ~~ I just plain don't worry about having Batteries because they are the best and you never have to worry.!* Enough said*

Battery technology has changed greatly in the last few years. I'm one of the ancient ones that stored batteries in the refrigerator !!!
Today's batteries are using component parts quality to get it better. The latest is to develop batteries with nano particle size components . They have a way to go so it's getting better.
I buy packs of batteries keeping for example ,4 batteries together but there's no garantee there..Serious situations require not only extra batteries but extra flashlights too.
