Battle Grade ASH Modification Idea...

It would keep from tearing a bros hands up without gloves while chopping.

I'd be willing to grind off a hole or three on the BG. wish I'd have snagged one now........

Baden Powell would be elated. Go for it. I never favored blades that hurt the mits during chopping. By the way, nice knife.

I was thinking about modifying the original scales to somewhat mimic an older Steel Heart and yes, maybe find a brass rod or corby that would fit the holes, or... do I just need to start over with new scales?

I have chopped with a fat ash before and it wasn't comfy. Smoothing the scales would work to help. The handle screws I add to my knives fill in the holes more and ease the hot spots from the handle material being sharp

I am lost. What is the issue with the tube fasteners? Of all the chopping I've done with Busses, Busse pinky was the only issue that ever develops.

Yes, the raptor scale pattern can be aggressive but the tubes are negligible.

Why would filling the fastener recesses in the scale improve anything?

With very thick knives the tube fastener is sub set in the grip material. Those ridges are sharp and can cause hot spots. Yes busse pinky is a very real thing.

My MOABM and thicker Busse have all had it. Nothing sand paper can't fix. I have fixed everyone of mine except the MOABM as it has never left the safe.

Even 3/16 thick blades can have the holes do damage. My bushwhacker mistress tore my thumb up where it would rest on the top through hole.

I have used my FBMLE, Magnum FSHs, and Magnum ASHs extensively and never experienced any issue with the fasteners or countersunk scale profiling to accommodate the tubes.

Maybe an alternate grip or hand size might reveal different results. Cool Beans, never mind me, carry on:thumbup:

I can see how gripping the handle so your thumb web isn't tight on the top handle hole would save some skin.

My first to arribe BGASH wend under the knife last night. I'm in the middle of the moving process and have to work tonight, but I'll get some pics up soon! A little rough now, but I have a clear vision of what she can be!

I chop with my Fat ASH all the time and ive never had any issues with the pinky or hot spots. I have the thinner scales......not the magnum scales. Feels like heaven in the hand. Maybe its just me...
