Got to do some wood processing today and my first extended time with the BOOM Parang...

Loaded up a pack and hit the trail. I didn't use my 1111 or JMD today, but they rode along all the same. The more the merrier :)

Up first, took out some medium-thick wild grape vines, mostly 1-3" and a few bigger, a lot of one hit chops. I took this pic early, before I got too sweaty, but did a fair amount of work here.

In another area, I spent some time breaking down large honeysuckle branches where a large tree came down. The Ash here have been completely obliterated.

Mostly easy one hit chops here, but had a lot of fun being able to wail with these sick blades.

The Boom Parang has been fantastic so far, grip felt great and it felt very secure with gloves on. Bites deep. You definitely feel the lighter weight vs. Something like the DT, but it has no trouble keeping up due to the speed. A fine aquisition.

Tanker is tough, but still showing a good bit of wear already. Here it is sitting on a convenient deadfall chopping horse.

On the Double Talon, it would be hard to overstate how much I've come to like this blade. Granted, it's been personalized, but it's just such a mean looking badass blade. I don't know how people with FMBs, MOABs, etc. handle so much awesomeness.

The DT is surprisingly nimble choked-up on the choil, it's versatile and seems to be a great heavy camp knife/chopper. The spine hump is well placed and comfortable. I can see it being pressed into camp kitchen duty and I have no problem breaking down cardboard with it. Really happy with how it chops. The hand-shaped handles are awesome, so comfy now.

No issues today with grip when it was 90+, plenty humid, and sweaty. The heat/dust/dirt/use actually pulled the oil and moisture out of the scales and they stayed pretty dry on both blades even though my clothes and gloves were drenched.

Thanks Jerry and Crew for the Battle Grade line!!!

Got some more INFI in the works, but I've also gotten a fantastic lineup of SR-101 users out of Op2Wks.

Thanks all for reading!

Great pics...the BP is one of the ones that got away....should have ordered it but who knows maybe it will come back around on OP2W part 2

Awesome pics and write up!
You put that parang to work, well done
It's funny how you can get attached to knives you mod

Thanks RCB, next time out I plan to pack a tripod and hopefully get some decent video. You're right about the modding, I'm getting hooked on dialing these blades in to just the way I want them. Will probably go hand-shaped on the Parang soon as well.

Consolidating a couple more pics from prior outings:

There might still be time to get on the wait list. I also just realized there's one sitting on the exchange :D

Iirc correctly, Jerry did say some of the Op2Wks blades could be re-released after a year or two, but he also said there were no plans for another Parang run

Only the Bossman knows for sure...

I like it a lot, for the price it's pretty incredible. It has been able to hang with most of the usual stuff I do with my Bussekin choppers, but the very thin grind worries me a little bit on heavy chopping, so I'm generally not going to go hacking into knots or very hard seasoned wood with it.

I didn't even look for warranty info, figure any damage is on me with this one. I'm unlikely to ship it back to Finland in any event. On lighter stuff though, the penetration is amazing, a lot of fun to use. In terms of the handle material and ergos, I prefer the Res-c on my 1111, etc. It's not a huge gulf, the Skrama is comfy and I haven't had any issues, the hand and a half design is really cool as well, I just like the Res-c handle more overall.

I have a few posts in the Skrama review thread as well.

I really like the handle on the boom parang it might kick my 1311 out of my woods bag as my go to chopper

Great pics man. Looks like this blade is shaping up to be one of those great all rounder bush knives that end up having permanent places in peoples outdoors kits.

Thanks Rob!

I've got to agree with you and Azoth on the Parang. We'll see once the "new knife syndrome" wears off, but I have a feeling this one is going to ride high on the user list.

I think the 1311 is an awesome blade, but I've been favoring the 10-11" blades lately since they're easier to throw in a pack. I do plan to bring it along with the BP next time I go out though.

First attempt at some vids today, just breaking stuff down.

Thanks for making the videos. In hindsight, should have purchased two BP's. Seems I could say that about every Busse I own though.

Thx guys, hope it's worthwhile.

RCB, the 1311 is a beast. Hadn't had it out in a while and it felt great to use again.

Thanks Ratman, it's a fun one. I'd wanted to try a parang for a while, I'm glad I happened to be around at the right time to grab Jerry's take on it.

I want to use it alongside the Skrama next time I'm out.
