Guys,

I need help. I'm very interested in the Bushcraft knives of these companies. Particularly the Bushcrafter pattern which they both have and the Essiac (by Battle Horse). I will use them for general outdoor use. The one i choose will be my hiking buddy :) I'm fairly easy on my knives and never abuse them. Even when batoning, i go very slow so i'm certain that durability is not an issue.

I need your input if you guys have experience with these knives. Please let me know if there are any major differences among the Bushcrafter of either company. Do you prefer their flat grind or their scandi? Is the A2 steel of LT worth the extra cash? Lastly, is the Essiac a good option for extra blade length at the same price?

I'm leaning towards battle horse because they are generally cheaper than LTW. Would i missing out on anything if i went with BHK instead of LT? Any input will help me :)

The A2 is worth it, I'd go LT knife. But, I might be a little bias in my pick :)

I don't have any of LT Wright's work (yet), but I do own a bunch of Battlehorse knives. I am also familiar with A2 from my Bark Rivers. My $.02 is that the O1 used by Battlehorse is more than adequate, and I can get 'em screamin' sharp. The A2 Bravos do seem to hold an edge slightly better, but a few passes on a strop and either knife is scary sharp again. My advice is to pick the knife that you like and go with it. (BTW, I own two Essiacs and they are just about perfect IMO).

I have Blind horse and then Battle horse "bushcrafter". No Wright knife to compare but I will give the Battle Horse Bushcrafter O-1 a large thumbs up. The grips are nice. No cramping with hard use. The Flat ground blade is my preference and it cuts and slices very well indeed. As with Blind Horse before, the Battle Horse Bushcrafter has the best performing, heat treated O-1 I've used. I'm very confident in the knife as far as using it as a one knife tool in an emergency. I wouldn't only have one by choice but if I had no choice I feel the Bushmaster would do the job. It really sharpens nicely and burrs are not problematic, snapping off easily and cleanly. I'm not one that believes in sharpening on rocks in the wild as if I can have a knife I can have a weight effective sharpening tool. I have no experience with this companies A2 but have at least two other companies knives in A2. I don't prefer it over O-1 and feel strongly enough about O-1 that I'd place it in my top 5 steels. Note I think the companies heat treat/temper is the best O-1 I've seen.

I encourage anyone that likes the design and steel combination to get one. The price even is excellent for the materials and quality.

Good luck. If you get one of the discussed knives in your first post it would be difficult to lose.

Like to add that whichever you choose, I have met both these dudes and they are classy guys. Cool you are choosing to support the little guys like them. I have wanted the BHK bush crafter for a long time, Mastiffs review now has me jonesing again.

Seems like they are both still making great knives. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. LT even made some Blindhorse stamped knives recently for KSF (last few months).

I like LT's "Pout House" logo - he cracks me up!

I have (2) LTWK Genesis (PT stamped and OFITW) and (2) Blind Horse Bushbaby (Custom maple with green liners and micarta) all in scandi grind and A2 (except the custom BB - it is scandvik) - they are really great knives.

I am a true fan of Blind Horse & LTWK - I have no experience with Battle Horse but I suspect they are tough as nails and worth the price and will likely own at least one real soon.

I think the O1 is tempered by Peters, and that's saying alot.

Since I last posted to this thread, I have purchased two Genesis' in FFG. They are by far my favorite knives - ever. I have dumped most of my other knives just because the Genesis' does anything that I want a fixed blade to do, and they do it better and easier by a long shot. I'm gonna buy a third one when the right deal comes along.....
