My wife, baby daughter and I just got back from a 3-day Fall camping trip by Bear Mountain. It rained on the second day. Lots of stuff to do with a Battle Mistress handy, including, but not limited to:
1) cutting branches for firewood and tarp support (since park rules forbade us from tying to trees):

2) cutting down whole trees:

:D :D :D Just kidding

3) empty soda can cutting demos:

4) just goofing around catching and skinning pesky kids: :D

My baby daughter was wandering around our tent and ran into something:

Hey, Dad, does this mean I can keep your Battle Mistress?

Kept getting the usual questions: Why do you carry around such a big knife? What do you hunt with it? Do you hunt bear with it? Oh wow! Can I try that?

All around, it was a fun trip.

Thanks for the awesome pictures man!! :D

I like the new handle shape.

Can you tell me more about the sheath? I recognize a military belt attachment thingie I think (love them).

Thanks, Andrew. I made the sheath with Concealex here in the apartment. I did the heating in the oven, moulding in a vise attached to my computer table, cutting on the living room floor, shaping on a belt sander in my bathtub (easy cleanup afterwards, but the wife doesn't agree :D), hole drilling with a drill press in the kitchen (better lighting) and rivet mounting back on the computer table. Yep, that's a Bianchi clip, alright.

Fantastic pictures! Thanks for sharing. It's always nice to see a user Busse, it inspires the rest of us! I'm going camping on the weekend of the 18th in the Shanendoah Valley. I'm already thinking of things I can chop and cut, but my wife just rolls her eyes!

Greg, thanks for the cool pics.

Did you do the handle mods yourself?

Yep. G10 slabs + brass screws + belt sander + drill press + lots of elbow grease = new handle. :D

It's a thing of beauty! Thanks for posting the pics!

Very Cool!

I like the pic where the BM took down that large tree in a single swipe! ! ! You must have that resharpening thing all figured out! ;)

Awesome looking family! Congrats!

Jerry

Cool. I especially love what you did with the handle, and the sheath looks great!

So....where did you find G-10 that thick?

Thanks, very much, Owen. Texas Knifemakers Supply.

Hey, I love the pics. I especially like the one where you put one of the kids in "time out" upside down. Although he looks like he's enjoying it! What kind of sheath do you have for your BM?
Thanks again for the pics of the BM in action.

P.S. Be sure to wear a respirator when grinding/ sanding g10 or carbon fiber!!

Yep, the kids from the two other families we were with were nuts. Typical kids, I guess, but I never went around asking people to hang me. :D They asked, so I hung 'em upside down. And they took turns, too.

I made a sheath for the BM out of Concealex. I feel it moulds better than Kydex, albeit more of a rubbery consistency when heated.

G10 dust is nasty when inhaled! I use a paint and dust respirator when sanding the stuff.

Jerry, I do finally have the resharpening thing down. :D
