Battle Mistress or AK47... if you could only have one

I thought i had decided, then i saw more pictures, now i'm not sure

so here's the situation.

I thought i had decided to go with an AK47 because i already have a Condor Boomslang which mostly fills my "chopper" needs, but now, after looking at all the BM pics, it just looks sooooo cool... i can't decide.

I have precisely enough to get one OR the other, but not both (Yet).

Which ever i get will be black coated with blue/black g10 if that affects your decision.

What would you do, and why?

If BM, which model?

I was going to say the mistress, but then I realized I sold my mistress and kept the AK. :-0

You will probably get far more votes for the Mistress, but I have to say "Get an AK!". I just got my AK and was shocked at how hard it hit when chopping. I batoned it through some 4' long logs without worry, there was quite a bit of vibration, but it did it. Here's stjones flexing it out

Mistresses are fun, but nothing like an AK. Just my opinion, take it how you want
 
I'm already getting a TGLB and Gladius for sure... so i won't need to make a choice there. It's a done deal. Already ordered.

TBH, i think i'm more interested in the "FUN" side as i am pretty sure that i have cheaper knives to use for clearing and chopping random debris.

I will likely never use the Gladius unless it's in a survival situation, but i am sure i'll take the BM or AK out for a run in the woods on a regular basis.

I wish i COULD get both, but it's not on the agenda any time soon.

For the "fun" side, I would say an AK47 because they are fun to swing and throw. You could use them like a machete and David Brown has done some of his own torture tests on it as well as what Garth has done to it (I'll search for the pics after I post this). It's a tough call as the FBM is a great knife. I'd love a Fat Flat Fusion Battle Mistress (FFFBM) as I'm not a fan of the corrugated bevels. The battle mistress is the ultimate camp knife and would chop down a tree quicker than an AK. It would be easier to baton wood with as well as using as a make shift hammer for tent stakes. So, I guess if you have something that you think will fit that bill already, then get the AK first and then snag an FBM later. The AK didn't have many, if any, different designs to deal with, so it's easier to choose. As for the FBM, you have the FBM combat grade with Corrugated bevels, FBM LE with satin finish and no bevels, Fat Flat Fusion Battle Mistress and I'm probably missing others. Then you need to figure out if you have Mega Man hands for the magnum grips or Man hands for the regular grip. Hopefully this helps you a bit. And if not, drink and something will make sense :D

thanks for all the input... too many BM choices. I'd have to be sober to make that decision, and my tequila would get mad at me if i ignored her.
 
Hmmm. I see you've defaulted to an AK ... which is fine.

However, think hard about the BM. By which I mean either the original SHBM or the new, soon-to-be-coming long SHBM. I've got ... a few SHBMs ... and I just love 'em. If I could only keep my AKs or my SHBMs, I'd keep my SHBMs.;)

The SHBM just feels so good in the hand, is an absolutely awesome chopper, is much lighter than you'd think, and has near-perfect balance. Just swing one and you'll be hooked.
 
So glad I don't have to make that choice.

You'll need em both but the AK is a wise choice to pick up first if you are going for the fun factor.
 
I promise you that you do not have a substitute for the Battle Mistress unless it is another BM. Get both, you won't regret it.

Yeah, what he said. No offense to the Condor blades, nice tools for the money, but 1075 carbon steel ain't INFI. Get a Battle Mistress (I'm partial to the CGFBM or an SHBM) and you have a tool for life.
 
I have both and if i had to choose between the two of them for a job, be it camping or whatever i'd take the Battle Mistress.
If your going for the 'cool factor' to take it out time to time and show off to friends the AK definitely has the 'cool factor' going for it. But like i said as far as a worker blade the BM wins.
 
The new katana is too long for what i have in mind.

Can't draw it from a pack without taking off the pack
