Hello,

Please help me: My Busse Battle Mistress (8 or 9 inch long blade), black finish, with straight micarta handle, with black tactical nylon sheath was stolen. The knife was new condition but over 10 years old. I need evidence of how much they are worth to turn in to insurance so I may buy another.

Any advice or help is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Chad

It might be worth the $10 to become a Basic Member so that you can search old sale threads in the Exchange. That way, you could print them out and show them to your insurance adjuster. An average of several of those would give some idea as to value.

Or someone here might be willing to search some back posts and link them here. I'll do so later today if no one else steps up.

A mint SHBM would easily be worth over $1000 if you go by the latest prices.

Some other guys like Cobalt and pbubsy can be of more help on exact price.

I'm sorry to hear about the theft. Hope they catch the culprit.

Think I'll pass here, 8 or 9 inch blade  A SHBM is a SHBM, with some exceptions/alterations/modifications. Just my
.02 worth. A little more info would prolly help. You had a sweet blade there for sure! Good luck though, what a bummer for sure

You can also search the forum with google by adding

into your search

Sounds like a pretty old school BM. I'd say $1250 to $1500. Unless of course it was one of the first 300, and in that case I don't know....def at least $1500. I'll ask Papa when I speak with him next.

Edit:: Curious as to what your insurance company will accept as "evidence". Also, do you just get your purchase price back? Or do you get enough to replace your blade on the secondary market?

Bubba is, of course, correct.

The details of pricing depend on the details of the knife in question. As Bubba says ... if it's a 1/300 ...

My personal experience with insurance companies suggests they will demand more than our word. Perhaps they would accept a written assessment from someone with the credentials of PapaThud or perhaps Scott (Skunk)?? Even for them, more information on the knife's physical conformation would be very helpful. Too bad you don't have an old pic or two. :(

That's why I suggested sale threads (here and eBay). If one did sell recently there, I'd get that documented quickly since those auctions don't remain accessible all that long.

If it's value you get back, Chad will need some documentations of "comps" or recent sales to set value. If it's just purchase price, then Busse might have to help him out with a receipt. I would think that it might be considered a collectible and hope that he gets current value.
