Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the width of SH BM and a BM Ergo? If you have either or both, could you include that spec(s)?

I know that the blade width is smaller than a Steel Heart and this is one of the reasons I've put off getting one (when they've come up) but lately I've been looking at the SH BM and the width of the blade looks wider than a Ergo BM but then pictures can be deceiving. Any help you hogs can give me would be appreciated, thanks!

Next time we get together, I can bring my BM-e back and you can take another look at it, but unfortunatly I dont have a SHBM.... yet.

ok the SHBM is about 1/4 inch wider in width and about 3/8 inch longer on blade length. Thickness looks about the same. Overall length is close since the E-handle's handle is slightly longer. But the SHBM is still a bit longer.

The width of the 1 of 300 SHBM I show pictured in flatlander's thread "Should I or Shouldn't I" is about .26"-.27" (about 17/64"). I have read about a couple SHBM's that were 5/16" thick, but I have never seen one personally - I think the vast majority of SHBM's are close to 1/4" thick.

That is just another way of saying Walkingman is LAZY!!

SHBM width = 46.5mm or 1 and 13/16 inch Cutting edge length is 229 mm

BM-E width = 41mm or 1 and 10/16. Cutting edge length is 220mm

so the difference is actually 3/16 not 1/4 inch. So the SHBM is a bit bigger in every dimension than the BM-E and they are both bigger than the Basic 9 by more than their difference.

As for true 5/16", no there is none that I have ever heard of. But if thre is Scott or Andre would have had one or heard of it. The fattest ones were 0.26 to 0.27 inch thick or 17/64 inch. Any Satin sHBM that is this fat was hand ground and finished by Jerry as the machine grinding and finishing would have taken more metal off. So if you have a Satin SHBM that has no dimples on the base of the blade and is thicker than 1/4 inch it was hand ground just like the LE. The typical Satin SHBM has dimples and is 1/4 inch so it was just a satin version of the coated SHBM.

I HAD one that started out 5/16", but was satin finished and ended up around .285, .29.

I sold it because I couldn't bring myself to beat on it, but the difference was noticeable compared to my .27 SHBM.

that is probably as thick as they got. There might be one or two out there with coatings that might be close to 5/16. I guess if there was SHSH's that were 5/16, you'd think there would be SHBM's that were also.

possibly a 5/16 coated if yo look hard enough. Good luck:thumbup:
