Just be sure you know which FBM you're getting, Hatari!
There are CB FBMs or Combat Grade FBMs -- generally the thinnest and least expensive (I won't say cheap).
Then the LE FBMs or Limited Edition FBM -- only one version, Satin blade with Tigerskin Micarta scales.
Then the various FFBMs or Fat, Flat FBMs. They are very thick (rather like the LE) and are flat -- which means they do not have the corrugations on the blade of the CG FBMs. They tend to be intermediate in cost between the original CG FBM and LE FBM.

Where is it possible to see the differents B.M. ?
Here are a few...
L to R: FBM LE, FBM CG, BM E, SHBM (and a MOASH).
Also, here's the FBM SE.
I don't have a Proto or a Fatty. Should be getting a Fatty soon. Not so sure on the Proto. I'm going to have to go all Stealth HOG to get that one.

The Battlemistress comes in only 10 inch blade length, as for what is better, that is a matter of taste and opinion and that will vary as much as there are brands of knives. Ultimatelly, what you do is what will dictate which size. I go bigger, only because a big knife can do small tasks but a small knife cannot do big tasks.
