Hello to all! I am new to the Busse forum but not to knives. I was want take the plunge and get into these knives but I am a little confused about the battle mistress. I have gathered that there a bunch of different models but can some one break it down for me "dummy style". Also, a sort of going price would be nice so I don't get totally screwed! LOL Thanks is advance and I look forward hearing what everyone has to say.

there are a few generations of the battle mistress.

1. straight handled battle mistress: there are various configurations, but in general expect to pay over 1000.00.

2. battle mistress ergo: again, variations like the zero tolerance line are out there, but generally run in the 500.00 range.

3. fusion battle mistress: latest model, many many configurations in varying thicknesses and finish. anywhere from 400-600.

also, expect to pay more for custom shop models or other variants.

I think you should try to find yourself a Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress (CGFBM) or if you want a little more thickness/weight get your hands on a Fat Flat Battle Mistress (FFBM or FFFBM).

The CGFBM is 0.25" thick, while the FFBM is around 0.312" thick. There are a lot of threads out there that talk about the benefits/shorcomings or each. In the end it's a matter of personal preference. I had a CGFBM and sold it like a moron, but I am getting another one.

Type in either of the acronyms above into the search and a bunch of threads should pop up.

The exchange is a great place to find them. There was recently a destruction test done on the FFBM. It took an AMAZING amount of punishment before breaking. Since the posting of that video, they have flown off the shelves. Whatever you get you will love it.

For current production fusion battle mistresses it goes like this from lowest cost to highest.

CGFBM: Combat grade, 1/4 inch thick with the corrugated main bevels. Available in numerous coatings and handle finishes. This is the one I have, thought the corrugations were kinda ugly at first but they've grown on me.

FFBM: Fat fusion battle mistress. .31 inches thick. Semi-limited production battle mistress. The saber grind is similar in appearance to the combat grade except it has no corrugations. Not much more expensive than a combat grade but much thicker and heavier, the best chopper of the series.

FBMLE: Limited edition Fusion Battle mistress. Offered in satin and tiger hide canvas micarta only. Although as thick at the spine as a FFBM it's considerably lighter due to the full height flat grind. This model is the best cutter due to the flat grind and relatively thin edge it comes with from the factory. While heavier than the combat grade it due to the full flat grind it actually balances nearer to the handle.

There's also the rather rare FBMSE that is essentially a CGFBM without corrugations and has a double cut finish.

Currently the FFBM and LE models are available **on a very limited basis** from the Busse company store (not to be confused with the busse combat website). The combat grade fbm's are only available through the exchange or auction sites.
