I am curious what wins out for most folks as the best secondary blade in a jack or pen knife?

If you are like me then your choice would be based on the blade it is paired with. I strongly prefer a coping style blade more stockman style and less whittler style. I think it makes a great workhorse to take care of the dirty tasks paired with a nice pointy clip blade. This would be my ideal and how I voted. For me it would change if the main blade where more stubby like a spear or drop point. In this case I would rather have a wharnie to give me a nice point. Not my ideal setup but just as versatile in my eyes. Look forward to reading what you all like and prefer :)

I didn't vote but my secondary blade choice would depend on the primary blade; I want the blade shapes to compliment each other, not create redundancy.

EDIT: if I had to choose one, in a jack, I'd probably go with the thin coping.

big blade with some belly, secondary with a nice straight edge and a sloping spine to keep it from being conspicuous in the hand.

Jeff, I am right with you. A clip main (preferably a Cali or muskrat clip) with large radius belly, and a sheepfoot secondary (stockman coping) is for me the perfect combo. If a stockman, then the third blade should be a spey or pen with a tight radius belly, giving three different sized and shaped blades for maximum utility.

I'm with both Jeff's here - sheepsfoot secondary along with a clip main blade.

No sheepsfoot?

I voted spey, straight edge, belly, good for spreading some jelly on a biscuit...... get it nice and sharp and it's pretty versatile.

I voted spey. usually like a trapper combo for something 3 and half or bigger. depends on the size and blade type and knife size. pen knife or peanut id like a pen blade to go with it. like the spey-clip combo but would also like a long sheepsfoot. so many options, too few pockets.

Small Coping is my choice. A slim spear blade (not wide/broad like some models) with a Coping secondary (#92 Eureka Jack!) is the ideal jackknife for me.

I voted awl because I always think of all the uses I would have for one but I don't actually have one.

I might vote coping but have never had one, awl, always useful

(p.s in truth, I use a knife with a pen secondary blade most of the time, i just use it like I would an awl sometimes :))

My favorite two blade knife has a Sheepsfoot and a pen. Best combination I ever found. umm... I'll let you figure out which is the primary and which is the secondary.

edited to add: BTW, this means I did not vote for any of your choices.

I voted wharncliff. I carry a Queen Dan Burke barlow with a small wharncliff 2nd blade, and bose/case wharncliff trapper. Both great blade combinations.

I voted sheepfoot, or big coping. A lambsfoot might be good too, but I really like the straight edge shorter than the curved edge blade.
My perfect knife:

Voted wharncliffe because that's a more functional blade for me, I like having the straight edge with a needle point for accurate cutting and scraping gaskets.

Assuming a Clip Point master I voted Wharncliffe secondary. My edc is usually a Wharncliffe Trapper.
