A few days ago I scored a new Battle Rat off the exchange (along with a DogFather), and I wanted to know from all those that own and use a Battle Rat, did you leave the edge as is, or did you reprofile it?

I live just a few miles from a knife maker here on the forum, and I was thinking of having him convex my new Battle Rat, but I first wanted to ask you guys in the Swamp what your suggestion would be to do with the edge.

Thanks.

Mine had gone to Vic (Horn Dog) at some time in it's travels and he thinned it out. Was my sharpest knife for some time. Check out this monster it took down a couple weeks ago. That thing was work and the wood was hard...the thinned out edge only took the most minor nicks...I am very impressed. Besides, I have beaten the snotz out of that knife a bunch. Great steel!

Black/black or Tan/tan (differentially hardened,) Black/tan (thru-hardened,) or Satin battle rat (diff hardened, convex?)

I would beat the crap out of some stuff with the BR. See how it performs for your typical use. Think about how what method you want to use to resharpen in the field.

After that, I'm thinking you'll have your own answer but there will be many to offer advice. :)

Nice score!

Excellent advice! Thanks a ton. I've had many Rats in the past, but I've never owned a Battle Rat, so I'm really looking forward to thrashing this one in the woods.

There are very few knives I would rather have with me while in the field! Definitely one of the best knives to ever crawl out of the Swamp  Congrats on your score!

Yes it's the baddest knife ever!! I would take my BATTLE RAT over my basic 10 and my basic 11!!

The BR is an awesome blade. I would have to agree with beating on it first.

Thanks RPN, its amazing how different it feels than the standard battle rat, more balanced, and it feels lighter. I will have to do a little chop off between them and also weigh them to see what the difference is
