Ken, that's a beautiful knife that RMK made to your specs http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690864 Just sorry I couldn't comment on it before the thread got dicked up...

IMO, and maybe DW could clarify, I do believe that the Combat Companion is orderable in as many configurations as the #1--in other words, a whole bunch, and way more than most other models....

Nice knife, good job RMK!

Actually, it was made to someone else's specification, and I simply bought it from him. See: http://www.knifetalkforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=69214&an=0&page=0#69214

I felt that the thread became derailed to the point of no return, so I locked the sucker. I simply wanted to appreciate fine Stag, a value instilled into me by my father. Anyway, the photos are still there, so they can still be looked at, and that's the main thing.

Part of your comment above may be due to the fact that the Non-Catalog Knife catalog shows two variations, and the Non-Catalog Knife price list has three variations. When selecting options for a Combat Companion, one simply chooses one of these three variations that already includes otherwise chargeable options, specifically the one that includes the most options that are desired.

For example, mine no doubt started off as 0-D with Stainless Steel blade, with the following five chargeable options specified: Thumb Notches, Single Hilt, Nickel Silver Hilt, Black/Aluminum Spacers, and Stag Handle. The radiusing of the (standard) Duralumin Butt Cap is a non-chargeable option. Starting off with either of the other two standard Combat Companion configurations would clearly push the number of chargeable options over the limit. the non-Stainless Steel 0-D would push it to six, and 0-E would push it to seven. I am sure that the original owner wanted a Nickel Silver Butt Cap, but that would have meant dropping another option.

Anyway, I own a lot of Randalls, and this is becoming one of my favorites.

(I prefer no-hone sheaths, so I have a replacement no-hone sheath on order with Sullivan's Holster Shop, but like my #11-4.5", the original sheath is staying with me.)

Maybe there should be a general Testosterome thread for members to vent, or perhaps just a measuring tape sent to all forum members....(6" should be enough for this purpose, and I don't mean to measure blades!)..I prefer to dwell on the coolness of Randals, any and all, although, original brown micarta might just be my favorite! That is a beautiful knife and the stag is perfect. Shame that the original post got sidetracked.

The Combat Companion's standard offering is a leather handle, carbon blade. Anything other than this would be an option. The two pictures are only an illustration as to some of the options available, not two or three different models themselves...

Many thanks, Scott, for the clarification.

Given that the RMK Non-Catalog Models II catalog was made prior to the "five chargeable option" limit, it might be useful for customers and dealers alike to clarify the standard/catalog configuration. Prior to that limit, it didn't matter much. Now, with the limit, it does matter, and it is easy to unknowingly reach the limit.

The fact that two Combat Companions appear suggests two standard configurations, or starting points for which chargeable options can be specified. This could be easily reflected in the descriptions on the reverse side and/or in the Price List.

In any case, please consider this suggestion in the future.

KL, it may just be that you are a type 1D...

p.s. By the bye, I stand by my comment 'I do believe that the Combat Companion is orderable in as many configurations as the #1--in other words, a whole bunch, and way more than most other models...' ;)

My first CC is due to arrive in Aug next year. :) I like the stacked leather, and single hilt so i ordered a standard model, it looks to be a very robust and functional blade pattern. Waiting with anxiety as usual with orders from RMK.
