Battlefront II: More Gooder

I never got into video games much, but I like games where I can just screw around and have fun. Growing up I always had games like Dark Forces, Rebel Assault, and those other fun Star Wars games, but they were limited. No more! I asked for Battlefront II for Christmas, and although it runs slowly with my 64 mb Radeon 7500, it's an awesome game. Not even because it' Star Wars, but because I can just mess around and exploit the game to do silly things. If you're having a space battle, you actually take off and land in whatever ship you want, leave the hangar, and destroy the other fighters and flagships, OR you can fly into the hangar of the other flagship, hop out of the cockpit, and start gunfighting. You can also leave the hangar and go ito control rooms. You can sit down at a remote turret control and use the ships' guns to take out your own craft, enemy craft, or shoot the very ship you're sitting in. My favorite is sneaking on board the enemy ship and disabling the shields, life support, and artillery. Land battles are also an option, but they're not nearly as fun as ship-to-ship combat if you ask me. You can play as "heros" or "villains" too- such as Han Solo or the abnormally thin Darth Vader, but it's timed so you can't play as them for too long. Regardless, even non-Star Wars fans would appreciate the expansiveness of this game, and Star Wars fans will have a lot of fun with the locales such as Hoth and the Death Star. There's a story mode, which I assume follows the Clone Wars and perhaps the Civil War, but I haven't gone through it yet. I haven't even tried playing online because I need a new video card (the box says a 64 mb is fine, but it's choppy to the point of frustration), but that's another option open to you. There's my plug for the day :D

Thanks for the review of this game. I was wondering if Battlefront II was like this. I really like the free roaming type games, GTA San Andreas being my favorite so far.

Have you tried dropping the graphics quality to increase your framerate? How Much ram do you have? There might be a way to get it to run fairly smooth with a 64 MB card.

I didnt buy the first one because I heard from reviewers that the online play was plagued by terrible lag, even with a state of the art computer and fast internet. Let me know if this one runs smooth online, when you get to it.

I've got 1024 mb of ram currently.

So far, we've tried reducing the ATI graphic quality settings as well as the Battlefront in-game settings to increase the performance, but neither of those have done much. My card has also been problematic with a few other games, so I would like to get it replaced soon. Just for the record, it wasn't a memory issue, because when I installed it Christmas day I was only at 512 mb and then later that day someone gave me another 512.

Try the "official" forums; usually the clever lads will have a list of fixes you can try.
I've been considering this one as well; the first version got rather poor reviews, wheras this one seems to be pretty positive.

My son got this for his PS2. He absolutely loves it, and sits playing it like a zombie, oblivious to anything else. I tried it too, and it's quite powerful in it's features. Basically, you can do just about any scenario you can imagine, change characters repeatedly in the same game, etc.

Highly recommend this one...

My little brother got it for Christmas, and I got Revenge of the Sith. ROTS is a neat game, too much talking and story animation, and the bosses are a pain in the butt to kill, but the moves are neat. Any time I hit a tough patch, I just give the controller to my little brother to beat. I played Battlefront II with him for an hour or so. After my eyes start hurting, I have to put the controller down, but I do like the weapons, but I don't like the character views.
