After a long time out of the knife appreciation game (part of which is Spyderco's fault, I explain that below), I have gotten back into it a bit.

I added a BattleStation to my "collection" - sort of on a whim, but I really liked the lines of the knife. I've had it for a couple months, and it's a great EDC. The ergos are stellar, overall design is clean and allows for great control on fine tasks, yet it's stout enough to inspire confidence. In short, it's much better than I anticipated and I'm glad I picked it up.

I'm thinking about having custom scales made for it, although the texture of the stock scales is going to be tough to beat.

It's (tongue-in-cheek) Spyderco's fault that I haven't been purchasing anything: back in the early 90s, I bought an Economy; somewhere around 2000 I purchased an Endura in SE. These knives have been troopers for me, nary a problem. I've done nothing in terms of maintenance except for very basic stuff: lube it up, use it hard, and wipe it down when I'm done. Haven't even sharpened until quite recently.

Anyhow, the BattleStation was an uncharacteristic purchase for me, but I'm glad I did pulled the trigger.

Now I'm in the process of growing my collection. I'm simply amazed at the sheer selection available today - this is truly a great time to be a knife lover.

I like the BS but I grabbed a Double Bevel instead. I really like the DB.
Do you have one?

I'm under the impression that the Battlestation didn't sell too well which is a shame -- it's a lovely knife. If it was 1/2" to 3/4" longer, it's be ideal.

I'd guess you're right on both counts. When mine arrived via USPS, I remember thinking "Well, would you look at that? It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be." However, the size is one of the reasons I really like it - and I'm a big blade guy, normally. The overall package works so darned well for me.

No, I do not - I'm sure you understand this: the DB just doesn't speak to me. I'm sure it's a great knife - it is Spyderco, after all! That may change, but right now I'm waiting for a first production run Gayle Bradley to arrive, as well as an older Volpe. Next up will be a K2 when I can find funding.

Yeah, seems the Battlestation got heavily breezed over by people judging the book by the cover. Many say it looks overly tactical or busy, maybe even threatening...
But I've only heard good comments regarding its ergos and construction.
And I wouldn't expect anything less, coming from the very talented Dialex! I wish it sold better, because I'd also like to see many more future Spyderco Collaborations with Mr. Diaconescu!

RLD- I did not like the Double Bevel at first, but I do now. Getting the folder in-hand was it!
fwiw, I'd like to see the BattleStation in FRN and a lockback.

I think alot of good Spydercos get breezed over. And alot you have to handle to fully appreciate them. I bought a few collections for sale in market place late last year, and most of the ones i thought i wouldnt like i did and some vise versa. The double bevel, air, and techno are a few that come to mind.
The reason i mention this, is the battlestation looks very oversized and uncomfortable, but then i think about the other spydies ive handled and im sure its actually a really great knife. Ive thought about picking that one up since the price dropped down.

Sig, the BS is actually pretty small. Much more compact than an Endura. The ergonomics are quite good; if I was to try one change, it would be to add jimping to the thumb ramp. Hard to tell just by looking how much that would matter, but it might.

I love my 2 battlestations. One I play with and one stays in the safe.
I'm going to be making scales for mine soon....I just can't decide what kind of carbon fiber to use. I have 5 new never seen carbon fibers coming so maybe one of those.

Its a shame this awesome knife is discontinued. Same with the Tuff. I hope they bring them back for some sprint runs.

Wish I could buy two! I've been trying to think of a scale design that would complement this blade. I really am leaning towards something like a gold-line CF, but in a deep red. Toss in black hardware and I think you'd have a sharp little looker. Put a mirror grade edge on it, highly polish the spine, swedge, choil, thumb ramp as the final touch. Maybe mock it up to see what coloring the grooves in a non-reflective, deep black would do...

Keep me posted on what you do with yours, sir.
