Hello everyone,
Here is an knife inspired by a historical European style. The blade is 11" long. It is a random pweld with low manganese 1075 and w2. Horn scales, nickel silver fittings. The blade has a 3D hamon with a subtle hada underneath from the pattern welding. I think the blade on this one may be the best looking piece of steel I have ever shaped (with the interaction of heat treatment and pattern).

Hope you like. Comments are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

Great looking blade. I like what you're doing lately, the hamon here looks a bit choji-ish and definitely COOL.

Did you use a powder abrasive of any type during this polish? I.e., pumice, SC?

Your fittings look more finished on this one. Nice job.

Saleem, thanks. I used Mothers polish above the hamon and FF pumice on the hamon and below. You can feel DRY pumice (dont get FFFF, it is too fine) bite. Use the feeling of where the pumice is biting to feel where there is more activity to draw out of the hamon. You don't feel it much until after about a minute over each spot, but then you do. I etched twice in ferric, 5x in vinegar, and one quick time in ferric.

I also used loose abrasive over the back part of the blade in a slurry after I was done with the etchings. Just for a little while to make sure all swirls and stuff were gone. Mother's does a good job of darkening the back of the blade and getting rid of any last scratches from the paper. Loose abrasive to follow up. The last etch was just to highlight the subtle pattern. Ferric is better for showing patterns in steel or wrought or between steel and wrought, vinegar and lemon juice are best for hamons. I don't know why, for sure.
