A little while ago, Auntie had a GS on sale as a blem. The handle, top of the buttcap took a hit and the plate was bent and a piece of the wood had broken off. It was a fantastic deal, and I didn't have a GS yet. Bawanna offered his help in fixing the handle blemish, the generous soul he is, and of course, I agreed, after all, who doesn't like Bawanna's work, right? Besides all that, I am not the most skillful with wood or metal working, or any repair work for that matter. I know a lot from the fellers here on how to maintain my knives, but the skill of repairing is something I never quite learned, I try to do some easy repairs once in awhile; however, not much success I sadly must say.

I love the color of the wood, and Bawanna did a really super job, the buttplate is smooth as glass, tight to the wood, and it looks like nothing happened to it at all. I kind of like the top of the butt shaved off, definitely feels different, but my hand seems to really like it.

That is a nice fix. A few months ago I returned an excellent Samsher to Yangdu because it took a bad hit during shipping that bent the butt plate and broke off a piece of the handle in the same place as this Gelbu Special. At the time I couldn't see a way to fix it that was within my skill set, but I could have done what Bawanna did here, and it would have ended up comfortable and good looking. Something to remember, since you never know when someone in the post office might drop your HI triangle box onto a concrete floor.

Other than the bad hit on the handle, that's an awesome Gelbu too. Really nice.
Truth be told it was tough to put that one back in the box and send it away.
I like how they feel with the top rounded off. In a perfect world I wouldn't take that much off but the disaster sort of dictated what we had to work with.

Glad your happy with it.

Good job and nice resolution to the problem. The swell on the bottom is still there to be useful and the overall look is still pretty cool. I like.

Looking at the picture I wish now I'd radiused it from the butt plate down to the ring.
Sort of keep the original lines. I didn't see that as I was working it. I need a do over.

No - it's good. I like the flat - distinctive and could be useful.

I like it the way it is, but if I ever get another one with the same blemish, you can try the above fix, I'm sure that'll be perfect too.
