I am reworking a AK-47 bayonet that a customer got while serving in Iraq and I noticed the blade is very hard on the outside but once this layer is ground off it is very soft. Does any one know what steel these blades were made from?
I know that you can accomplish this when forging, but these bayonets were massed prouduced and probally stamped. I am going to heat treat again but not sure what the steel is.
