My daughter wants a pellet gun for Christmas. The last one I bought was a Sheridan back in the 80's. I was looking at the local WM and Bass Pro. There are so many different ones. I did see Ruger makes an air rifle- very interested in that one. We will be using it for fun and hunting. Squirrels mostly. I would like to get the most bang for my buck without wasting money!! Trying to stay under $200
Any advise?

The Ruger is a great value.
I got a refurb for my son that was 35 bucks.
It is a bit underpowered for small critters but great for learning the basics.
There are a whole lot of options out there though.

Iv always been a big fan of Benjamin air rifles , they're available in both .177 an .22 caliber which is a good size piece of lead for a air rifle . iv also heard Gamo makes a nice gun but have never owned one personally , I don't know your daughter's age but some of these new rifles on the market are so dang strong that it takes some good arm strength just to pump them .

You can find refurbished RWS/Diana 24s and 34s well within your budget. Air rifles She'd likely keep forever. She should easily be able to handle the break barrel/spring piston on the M24.

I've got a Gamo Stalker rifle in .177. Its very accurate and easy to cock. I've had it for a few years with no issues.
It's not a toy though and if I were to buy another I'd go with .22 caliber pellets. But .177 is fine for casual shooting.
I paid around $200 for mine , with a scope. But they have a few different models and they vary in price and physical size.

She is 11 years old. Has her own 1022 --243 and 20 gauge. She is working on building up to get a bow strong enough to bowhunt.
Another gun I have read good things about is the Benjamin Trail NP XL. Out of my budget though.

I agree with leghog, depending on her age and size if she can break the barrel. Rws will outlast other name brand rifles.
German engineered with a lot less plastics part. But maybe she might want to use for a couple years and upgrade later.
First rifle I bought was a stoeger from BP and it's still working fine, I took care of it, lubed and clean the barrel about every 100 shots and store it in a padded gun case locked.

Well, first I would ask how your daughter is and how large? Crosman makes pneumatic versions of the Sheridan rifle in .22 and .177. If you want a breakbarrel I would not recommend one of the Chinese makes (and they are darn near all made in China),poor triggers and harsh recoil. Don't buy into that "over 1,000 fps" crap either.

I'd recommend an RWS,HW,or Air Arms, those are top quality spring piston airguns. Being a tad more realistic you probably want something cheaper, that is mild enough she can cock and shoot the gun herself.

That's a small list

Air Venturi Bronco

IZH Air Rifle

Crosman Raven

Gamo Recon

Ruger Explorer

Stoeger Arms X5

Note: These are all made in China

The best gun in that class is an HW30S,a beautiful German made gem. It costs over $300 though.

I like Gamo, used to like Daisy, but they went mostly plastic. Diana is good too..., got a nice scar from one, didn't realize how close my face had crept towards the scope.

Thank you for all your responses.

The local Mom and Pop sporting goods store had the Stoeger x10 for $79 black Friday Special and I bought one. At almost 1/2 price it is hard to beat. Now I can't wait for my daughter to open it for Christmas!!!

Good find, I still have my stoeger x20 . Hope she enjoys, happy holidays

We finally shot this bad boy. From the family room to the end of the hall (20 yards) we could consistently touch holes with Crossman Power Points. The factory 4X scope isn't the best one I have ever used, but it works for now.

Great gun!!

EDIT: Oops you got one already, enjoy! Sounds like a bargain.

Some of the cheaper manufacturers make powerfull guns but i guess it's the whole package that makes or brakes it. A good trigger does a lot for fun value.

I would look at some of the quality German stuff, she can pass it on to her children in 20 years time. These are pretty much indestructable. A Diana or Weirauch (Beeman in USA) The lighter models would suit her well.
Gammo makes powerfull guns but the trigger isn't all that great. The best trigger will be found on the Beeman or Weirauch as they're called in Europe.

They are also Weirauch in Canada as well. I recently got the 50s and the gun is a beauty. Heirloom quality tool for sure :). Too heavy for a young girl but perfect for an adult male
