BB13 Regrinding?

Hi all. I recently acquired a second INFI BB13 as a user. Rumor has it they really wake up for chopping use when they are "regrind"-ed?

A couple of questions on this: First, does this mean just change the edge angle, or is more drastic removal of material? Second, is there anyone people recommend having do this? I definitely don't have a belt sander or anything to do geometry changes on larger knives, let alone have the skill to do it :)

Thanks!

Josh over at REK has done it before on a BB13 I'll try and find the thread on it.
I have used his services MANY times and highly recommend his services.

PS I don't know what he's still available for though

Whoaaa... That thing is crazy. I would think you'd want to have a secondary edge for better edge stability, but I could be wrong! I've been learning a lot about INFI recently and my assumptions haven't always been right :)

Thanks for the link!

Ive got a "ghetto" reground bb13 that's one of my favorite choppers. Its not as light/fast as the REK regrind but performance wise I love it. I’ve never had a stock bb13 but If I did I’d HAVE to have it reground after being spoiled with this one.

Edit: Not sure why some pics loaded upside down🤨 but i don't know how to fix it.

Jack, what are the rough dimensions on what was done, like primary and secondary edge, as well as thickness behind the edge? Thanks!

Here’s a sample of what you can do with a HF 1x30” and little/no skill:

I have had a fair amount of practice, but definitely was challenging working with a blade this large on a tiny belt running at ludicrous speed. I did at least rig up a drip line to make my setup water-cooled, which helps a lot. Pretty easy to see where I removed material and I was surprised to discover the saber grind was actually slightly hollow. Meant I had less material to remove though which worked out. She ain’t the purdiest, but she’s an absolute monster chopper now.

Thanks! For me, I’d definitely want to outsource it. Among other reasons, I’m in a tiny apartment and don’t really have space for a belt sander :)

I also just don’t trust myself to not mess up such an expensive knife.

I spoke with josh at REK very recently and he’s not taking any mod work at the moment. He’s too busy with his own knife making I think - which although great for him - is a bummer because his work was absolutely flawless and he’s a guy you could trust.

I don’t know if there’s anyone else doing similar services at that kind of level but I’d love to know.

Bummer. Sorry to hear about that with Josh. At least that saves me a phone call though. Thanks for letting us know
