Posted this up in General, should have put it here. BBC has an article on the SAK's 125th anniversary, giving the history of its development. Also comments on a show of all the different prototypes developed over the years, and has a pic of the biggest SAK ever, with 314 blades.

That's a neat article.

It mentions visitors to the exhibit building their own knives. How cool would that be ? :D
 
Did you guys catch the photo caption that read "The very first knife was designed to dismantle guns and open tinned food"?

I'd bet dollars to donuts that those tasks make up the majority of what soldiers use their knives for to this day.
