"The Nepalese Government says it is prepared to shoot on sight anyone enforcing a five-day strike called by Maoist rebels due to start on Tuesday.

The strike - called in protest against the current state of emergency - looks set to be a show of strength between the two sides.

Public transport owners have been told they will lose their permits if they stay off the streets.

The moves come as the United States military experts are in Nepal advising the government on how to fight the rebels.

Looks really bad from this perspective. I think a bunch of innocents may pay a very high price. At least the kamis can hide out and maybe go hungry. Imagine being a taxi driver!! Talk about being a pawn.

The rebel leader, Prachand, sent a fax to the media in Nepal on Monday urging the democratic opposition to the government to support the stoppage.

"I regret that all of the communist factions and pro-left lawmakers, instead of supporting the Maoist strike call, have appealed for its withdrawal, which would weaken our struggle," he said.

Doesn't that tell him something?!

Speaking of left leaning, have you noticed what is going on in France. It looks like the left has been handed its hat. There is a major brawl developing.

Yes, it's a race between the right and the extreme right, the latter being represented by Le Pen who in 1987 he described the Holocaust as a "detail of history"

My buddy who called 2 or 3 weeks ago advising me that help would soon be on the way was right. Looks like some SO people are there and this delights me.

If they do it right 90% of the country can be 90% controlled by the right folks in a couple of months and this will take a great deal of pressure off the folks. The 10% is going to take a lot longer to get under control.

I forgot to add -- if I were living in Nepal today that shoot to kill order would make me very, very nervous about making my appointed rounds, especially if I happened to be carrying 30 or 40 khukuris!!!!

Italy hasn't exactly been quiet either. Not a real direction change so far, but heating up for sure. The EU looks to be in for a lot of infighting.

Many wealthy countries may become more introspective in the near future, and less willing to help the poorer.

Italy always looks a bit chaotic because they have some many political parties.
