HAHA! :D not yet! ya'll gonna have to wait until MUNKY88 & myself get back from our dayhike today!.

Lets just say there is some shelter building going on and i'm packing in almost 30lbs of freaking hardware! yea - 30lbs of KNIVES, Axes, tomahawks! plus whatever hardware Munky brings!

:D

trip report this evening....

:D

You know what they say when it comes to knives...

"One is none and thirty is one"... or something like that. :)

Next time someone posts a "you guys bring way too much gear!" thread, It will be your fault, Bushman5. :D

Have a blast. Looking forward to the trip report.

Best,

- Mike

ok we're back! hauling all those knives SUCKS! sorry NO pictures, neither of us have cameras.

heres what we did: we walked about 3/4 along the public trail, then abruptly left the trail and started scrambling up a 60% grade thru the woods for approx 3/4 of a KM. We got to a trail, took it Northeast for bit then plunged into the woods again, crossing deadfall. Found a spot, dumped out the knives and axes and played with them for a bit, before starting to make a basic lean to shelter from poles and brush.

The knives/axes and hawks i had with me:
- BK9
- BK7
- BK2
- J-Siah heavy camp bowie
- LILE bushcrafter
- Idaho Knife Works "Hunters Companion"
- Fallknifen A1
- Emerson CQC11 "Utcom" folder
- Emerson Super Commander folder
- ZT0200 folder
- SAK Cadet
- Mora 510
- Scrapyard SOD
- Scrapyard S5
- Handley BladeSmith TAC-EDC
- Kabar Khukri
- Kabar WartHog
- Vietnam 'hawk
- Riflemans 'hawk
- Granfors Bruks small forest axe

plus Munky had his custom made (MunkyBlades) bushcrafter and i do believe another knife with him?

Anyways, we got halfway thru the shelter and stopped to make a big pot of ramen noodles, with ham, sundried tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, and salt/spices. YUM!

started on the roof of the shelter, I looked over and saw Munky peeling a downed cedar. He managed to peel off a 4' wide x 12' long single piece of bark! theres the roof - watertight!

we also threw the 'hawks for a while before heading back.

thats about it, Munky can add more details. Just a good Sunday to be in the woods and doing woodsy stuff, playing with a pile of knives and hawks!

off to grill some lamb and drink more beer!

Yeah, sorry about the camera. Took it out to charge batterys and was in a rush this morning and forgot it. I'll go back and take some pictures of the shelter, but sorry.

We scrambled up the side of the hill along a ridge line hopping to find solitude. Oh! i think its flat ahead... no... Oh! i think its flat ahead... damn it! about 5 times.

eventually we stumbled across another trail we didn't know was there. A little freaked out at hearing people talking when we thought we were a km off the trail in the bush, up a 60% slope. Bushman drops behind a ridge tomahawk in hand upon hearing people. having flashbacks from when he was in Korea.

climbed off the newly found trail a ways and stumbled upon an old 1 lane logging road completely overgrown with at least 50 year old trees on it. Whole area was logged years ago and you can find old machinery off in the middle of the forest. Might go back with some flag tape and follow it next time.

Set up a ridgepole for a shelter in a nice camp with a prime (prime I tells ya!... ok it was a dry swamp) water source. started with branches, ran out and switched to bark of fallen and rotting trees. Stripped one of them so well it would make moyle jealous (who becomes a moyle anyways?!)

Fumbled around with a fire bow before concluding it's clearly the bows fault and returned home. Walking back Is always fun with bushman running around with his Swiss surplus pack a tomahawk or 6 inch knife on his belt. People go wide eyed.

hahahhaa, that one lady was goggle eyed........I should have starting doing indian war whoops!

oh man the flashbacks..........the flashbacks.........i wanted to lie low while the soft targets passed by and then creep up on them and bury the hawk deep!

wait....huh?

acid......don't do it it kiddies....

Alright, So i went out for a quick hike with an out of town friend and my bear bait.
went back to the same place to get some pictures of the shelter.

about where we came up. The log kind of blocks the steepness of the picture, but look at the tree tops for referance.

It had been raining, and under the shelter was almost perfectly dry.
