My first BC Jr. arrived today. I was lucky enough to score what I think to be one of the nicest configs of the Jrs released to date. It will be interesting to compare with other handle configs in this model. This one is FAT!!! but it works for my hands. I might want to go thinner if ever EDCing one. I've thrown some other knives in for reference. Here's the Friday sale thread specs on them all:

2015 0327 11 – Bushcrafter Jr. w/ Black bolsters over Black ash burl over black w/ white pinstripes, SFT Tang, convex on 1/8 spalted A2 steel
2014 0620 15 – Bushcrafter with Ironwood over black g10 with white pinstripes, stout, SFT Tang, convex on 5/32” spalted 01 steel
2014 0718 18 – Bushcrafter Sr. with Ironwood burl over black g10 with white pinstripes, SFT Tang, convex on 5/32” spalted 01 steel
2014 0214 002 – Bushraptor, Slate g10 over black g10 with a white g10 pinstripe, SFT Tang, Convex on 3/32” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel

Now for the good stuff:

From the pommel. You can see that the 5/32 Ironwood BC is "stout" and the Jr. is not any slimmer

I no longer have any hiking buddies, but I do have a Bushraptor, which is essentially the same handle as the HB. Even though it's 3/32, this one feels average size-wise compared to the 1/8 and 5/32 TT HB I've owned.

I can immediately tell this model and I are going to be good friends.

Man that looks awesome! I love my Bushcrafter, and have wanted a smaller version for some time now. I started lusting after that one you snagged as soon as I saw it on instagram :)

I LOVE the spalting on the A2, it looks amazing!

Beautiful addition to your amazing Bushcrafter collection Phillip! Thanks for all the reference photos. Congratulations again on scoring that BC Jr. The rest of us hope that you are satisfied with that one and this is not just the first of many in a new BC Jr. collection .

Thanks to you Phil, I'll probably need a Shadetree one too....

The Bolstered BAB looks awesome up against the dark spalting of the A2 steel......thats a great looking knife !

The Maroon Micarta handled BC Jr in A2 that I snagged is proportioned more like your Bushraptor so it seems that we will see variations in handle thickness much like we do across the Fiddleback line up. It will be interesting to see how the Burlap ones coming down the pike will stack up.

Either way, it is a way cool variation on a popular model. As Phil has suggested.....one may not be enough to satisfy the inner Bushcrafter ;)

One of my first Fiddle's is a BC jr. and I believe it to be one of, if not the finest small blades I have. It has a tapered tang which I love for this model. Feels so good in the hand with lots of control. Your bolstered BC jr. is first rate, love it.

I'm holding off judgement/interest until I finally get to handle my Bushcrafter that is waiting for me at my brother's place! Though I must say, that is a beautiful knife you sharkked! Now that I finally have my Esquire (my first wood handled Fiddleback) I think I'll be holding out for regular micarta or Shadetree handle scales. I really like my wood handles on my Esquire, but my preference is definitely the micartas.

It would be cool to take some measurements to compare and start to get and idea of what the standard deviation on the Jrs might be. I could see wanting to go the opposite from my first - commando OD micarta with a 5/32 TT.

 It is always nice to see the comparison shots to get a better idea of what I "need" next.

Thanks for sharing the info and the comparo pics. That thick handled Jr looks awesome. I'm glad thick ones are coming out more often lately.

Phillip:

Great suggestion !If you have a set of calipers we can get this party started. Let me know what dimensions you'd like to focus on and I'll take measurements and get them posted.

These pics are interesting. Personally, I've never been interested in the Bushcrafter on account of the wide blade. Just too wide for my uses.

However, these pics have me wanting a Jr. now. Thanks for sharing :)

Great post! That is a beautiful example of the bushcraft jr. and it looks like it comes to more of a point than some of them. I'm not sure if that is just me, but I like it.

Here is a photo of my Bushcrafter Jr next to a standard sized BC :

2015 0306 09 - Bushcrafter Jr.,Maroon Linen Micarta over Black g10 w/ White g10 pinstripes, 5 mosaics, SFT Tang, convex on 1/8” spalted A2 steel

Weight 4.80 oz

OAL 7.50"
Blade Length 3.29"
Handle Length 4.21"
Blade height @ Ricasso 1.117"
Handle width @ Palmswell 0.762"
Handle height @ Palmswell 1.037"
Circumference @ Palmswell 3.000"
Handle width @ Fwd Indent 0.686"
Handle width @ Rear Indent 0.654"
Max width @ Pommel 0.787"

With an overall length slightly larger than a Hiking Buddy, the smaller configuration of the ever popular Bushcrafter should prove to be a very capable knife with both 1/8" & 5/32" thick TT steel. This is my first Fiddleback in A2 steel. The spalting is quite impressive. Kudos to the Fiddleback Crew for providing yet another "must have" Fiddie !

I've been out of pocket. I will get some dimensions posted ASAP.

Well, I've just completed a high resolution 3D imaging analysis of my hand and compared with your specs, they are an exact match!! Looks like it was made for me! So, how about I give you, let's say an even hundo for that bad boy?? ;)
