Ok, it's been about a week since these were mailed out and received so figured I'd ask and see if anyone has been using their D2? I've gotten so far as to almost put mine in it's sheath but just couldn't do it. I'm gonna have to see if any are left over and order another one for a user. Kind of hoping Buck will have a few blades left and offer a build out to BCCI members. Might be a little cheaper way to get a user and try out the steel.

Have not used mine and probably won't. It will live it's life as a safe queen. Kinda sad.

I already have an EDC 110 with S30V and buffalo scales that I really enjoy. My plans for the BCCI 25th anniversary knives are display only at this time.

From every thread I've read is seems most all purchased the D2, as did I. Haven't heard anything about the gold etch 110. Just wondering if many of them were bought and if so what the thoughts on them are? I was thinking about maybe belatedly ordering one.

Of course I've used mine. For cutting paper, cardboard and rope. No cut up fryer or skinning work, yet. Though the edge that came on mine was well done it was too fine for my liking so, I touched it up more coarse. D2 being a finer grain steel will take a coarse edge well. I have shoved it into it's sheath and have carried it in this. All is well. Once I get the time I'll put it thru some serious cutting steps and let you know. So far I like it. DM

Well,

I am certain there are some left. Likely several. I also would say, I likely will be setting at a BCCI table in Idaho selling them there.
And I would guess likely by the hand-full. You know how it is going to be, bunch of knife nuts standing in a group and bam the herd goes into a full run grabbing them by the multiples. All the kids and grandkids will need one you know. The last time I bought one of the special 110 black micartas and ended up giving it to my nephew. I haven't had the heart to ask him if he still has it. Bet not.

So my recommendation to Hammer and everyone else is that if you really want one find a way to go ahead and order another NOW. If you are going to Idaho go ahead and order another now and then when we go in the Buck store and Joe Houser has laid out small numbers of custom shop build-outs made just for us, you won't have to make a decision of what to I buy, one of those specials or another 25th D2. You can go for the special as you already have all the D2s you want.....A special 300?, don't hold your breath...

Im still biting my finger nails waiting for mine to arrive :)

You might inquire to see if your order is in the pipeline.

When mine didn't arrive at the same time as the others did I contacted Larry Oden who got my overlooked order back on track.

Thanks for the reply David. How coarse did you go with your edge? I would think the Lucite handle would be good for kitchen prep especially something like chicken. The Lucite won't allow bacteria in like a wood scale might. Any idea what hardness Buck went with on the D2?

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get another one. Wish Joe could offer some of those Build Outs to BCCI members who can't make it to Post Falls but I guess that's one more incentive to go.

I put my order in on the first day the newsletter came out i believe. However as i live in the UK there is usually a 7-10 day delay before i receive parcels.

While visiting at the Blade Show, I was told by Joe Piedmont of Buck Knives that the D-2 110s were drawn back to a Rockwell of 60-61.

I took it to Norton's fine India stone (320grit). Still, it cuts like a blade at 400grit. It will cut paper with or against the grain easily and shave every hair it touches. I wouldn't be surprised if some hit 62RC. Just the way it sharpens and cuts. Preliminary thoughts are, I think this steel will perform and not difficult to sharpen. Plus, I'm not having staining issues. Still, it doesn't get humid here and I barely wipe it with mineral oil. DM

Thank you David. The only other D2 blade I have is a Queen stockman and that think has been all kinds of hassle to put an edge on. I do have a Spyderco Para 2 in CPM D2 which is a dream to sharpen and holds as edge very well but as I understand it that's a different D2 than my Queen and our Bucks.

Yes, your correct as the CPM D2 is of the powder metallurgy process and this formulates the steel different. Yet, our 110's with D2 should sharpen very close to the characteristics of the powder processed D2.
Give it a test drive, I think you'll like it. DM
