BCCI 301 Help Please

My brothers, I acquired this beauty but I'm not in love with the ivory Micarta slabs. I'm thinking about having her re-slabbed. I'm considering...mammoth, armadillo or just plain ole black Micarta. What are everyone's thoughts? I also like stag but there are a lot of them out there.
 
They only made 100 of those knives, would be a shame to modify it. Buy a different knife to rescale unless you absolutely have to have the BG-42.
 
You nailed it on the head. BG 42 is my favorite steel. To have a Buck Stockman in BG 42 with my favorite slabs on her is a dream I never thought would ever exist. I mean, for this ol hillbilly from WV who carried Bucks for years, and now to have one in BG 42? It would be a crying shame not to use her.

I'll prolly end up putting the black Micarta on her with a slight palm swell. PERFECTION!
 
Its your dream, put on it what ever you what. I am not a 'diller' lover. My choice for 301 dreams is elk, close grooved matching stag, really good random jigged bone that lightens on the ends and lastly really good burl wood. I use to include Mastadon but I have drifted away from it. For EDC it is more prone to cracking. To continue dreaming, if it was a production dream scale, I would like to see a nickel silver fancy Buck shield, not ole blue...hey maybe a badge shape with say, a knife cutting thru a bolt......If you want to collect then you can't mess with it......Desoto is right there aren't that many made, but the BCCI sure had trouble selling them. You likely will not see any special 300s sold by them again....Yes, they were pricey but if you like'd the first one you got we all should have bought a couple more while we could......... 300

This all just goes to illustrate a point. We all want to carry Buck. We all want better steel. What to do?
It is his knife and if he is not a collector, I'd say go ahead and rescale it. If I could get my hands on one cheaply I would buy it and love.
 
only 1 out of 100? Man I wouldn't touch it.
 
Have you considered yellow micarta with a slight palm swell? Those discontinued yella handle 301's looked sharp. (no pun intended)
 
I think scrimshaw would look nice if thats possible on this material.
 
Thanks everybody. You've given me some great insight. I still want to reslab her but still don't know with what. Thank you Mr. 300 for the knowledge on Mammoth. I definitely do not want it cracking on me.

As much as I love black Micarta, stag is looking pretty sweet right now.

The 301 was a rare BCCI item and so was the watch seen in the above video.
