BDC - Uses?

Hey Gang:

I sharked a very nice 10.5" 10 oz. BDC by Bura from the daily deals a few days ago. Thank you Yangdu. This blade is about as perfect a blade as I have seen from HI yet. For those of you not familiar with the BDC, it is double fullered with a chiruwa tang. Mine is horn handle with a trace of feathering at the tang edge. White metal fittings, polished like a mirror and excellent scabbard as well. My first HI blade with the UB markings. I love it and now think I need to find a 14" BDC to keep it company. :D

My question though, is what uses can be imagined for a 10.5" BDC? It is a bit too small to be a good chopper and the blade is way bigger than my JKM, KK, or a Sarge model ruling out pocket EDC carry. I'd be content to just display the BDC, but really want to put it to work somewhere. Maybe a good general purpose hiking size blade? What ideas do you have on this one? Thanks,

Jeff

I have a very pretty 10" BDC in horn by Kumar. I love that little blade and get a big smile handling it...but I don't really know what to do with it. It's really a belt knife, and not a khukuri. It doesn't have much chopping in it. It won't make a great skinner. It isn't ideally shaped for food prep.

I have carried mine and used it for various cutting chores, but in the end it just wasn't me. It's a beautiful hand made knife, and a fabulous acessory for the khukuri lover, but I prefer belt knife with a straighter blade.

Your mileage may vary, of course, and anyone who doesn't have a BDC yet will certainly not regret getting one (want to buy mine?).

I also have a 14" BDC by Sher, and it is a superb little khukuri! It is much mroe of a "real" khuk than the cute little 10"

I have several 10" and 14" horn and wood...I really like these blades...but I look at them as a fighter and have started having my students train with them.

SWMBO uses hers; both short & 14" a lot in the garden, flower beds & has been known to use one in the kitchen too. I use the 10" model hunting, fishing & etc. It is a great size for a camp knife & etc., but then, so is the 14".

You could do what I did. Find a pretty girl to give it to. I'm sure she will be very grateful.

What not to do with one. Bought one thinking I could use it to cut up deer with it. Dinged the heck out of the blade using it to split the pelvis bone and seperate the head. Back to using my first HI purchase from years ago, an 15" Ak with a crack in the handle that has never gone any where. BDC is a pretty knife, but have not found a use for it.

I think the 14" is a perfect "answer the door at night" khukuri...big enough, not too big...deadly and quick.

Hmm...sounds a lot like my ex wife too...must be enough to scare me off!
