I seen Dave has a new Blur for sale and was wondering about the steel BDZ-1? i dont know much about steels but have never heard of this, how does it compare to D-2 and S30V? any info would be helpful

Might it be BD-1 steel? I've not heard of BDZ-1, but BD-1 has shown up on several Spydercos and seems like a good choice for a Blur.

yeah ones Dave just got in.....im thinking of making it my first blur but was unsure of the steel since i never heard of it before

i think its model 1670BGTST.....i noticed alot of LE Blurs are tanto serratted blades and i dont really care for serratted knives

Looks like it might be a new alternative to 14c28n?

That's the idea. We're not looking at a large scale change right now, but it's something we decided to experiment with. It is essentially an American steel that is roughly equivalent to Sandvik 14C28N in performance.

If you were to switch, would it affect price much?

Yeah I don't get why all Tanto blurs have partially serrated edges. Please correct me if there are are plain edge ones out there.

apparently it adds about 30 bucks

You have to figure part of that is from the new handle finish and the fact that they only bought a small amount of BDZ-1 to try it. I would imagine if they ordered it in a quantity large enough to put in EVERY single 14c28n they make, the cost would go WAY WAY WAY down.

Volume discount has to be huge compared to a small run of knives when you consider how much steel they would need to for every Shallot,Scallion,Chive,Leek,Blur,Piston,Knockout and any others I'm forgetting.

I'm betting the whole run of BDZ-1s is only a FRACTION of the total Blur production for one month.

Im sure you are right the more its used the cheaper it will get. I was just stating that other than some anodizing the difference from the other tanto's being around 60 and the BDZ-1 around 90. Thats the price now what it is next year if they even stick with it who knows.

My thinking exactly.
