We (being the candidates) were told that we would not get any word from the police department for another week or so as to how we did.

I was just contacted by the Lieutenant who informed me that I got a perfect score on my tests and would be contacted in the next week or so to schedule my official oral board interview for THE ONE SPOT that is open. I done good.

..and I don't mean good like 1 out of 20. I mean good like 1 out of 117. This is an extremely hard department to get into. I'm very proud of me.

Congratulations, brother.

Like I said, good to see another good guy getting into law enforcement. It seems like nowadays they promote and hire not by merit but by other means. Hopefully you got the job since it seems like you scored as good as it gets.

Holy hell, just ONE spot? Alpharetta's pretty big... hope you get in.

What was the physical test like? You make it sound easy.

The physical test isn't extremely difficult as long as you're in shape. You have a .25mi course that involves climbing over a 6' wall, sprinting in two places, jumping a gap, and dragging a training dummy weighing 160lb. for 50'. All of this has to be completed within 3 minutes. Like I said, as long as you're in shape, you can knock it out relatively easily. The trick is doing it faster than everyone else. Then, you have the written test. If you haven't prepared for it at all, I could see it being quite a chore, but if you know what to expect and how to attack it, of which there certainly is a proper technique, then you'll do well. Again, the trick isn't passing the written test. It is doing better than everyone else. They don't take people that just pass the test. They take the person who scored higher overall than anyone else. Every year they test about 200 candidates and only a couple (one or two) get chosen. You have to be just right to get in. Of the people who are tested, you have all sorts. You have people who are ex-military, college students with degrees in psychology and criminology, etc. They look at every aspect of you. You can't just be super smart or a tough grunt. You have to have the right background, physical skills, physical level, education, common sense, problem solving skills, etc. They don't just want you to be a good piece to mold. They want you to already have a good base to build on.

Thanks for the details, it must be the dream job that everyone wants then. Good luck!

It is. Alpharetta is a great department to work for. You get a great new take home car, great pay and benefits, and the area is REALLY nice.

I rode a bull or three at the Alpharetta rodeo back in the day. Good town! ;)

Just read this, Congratulations. Like I tell my 6 and 7 year old sons. I need you to grow up to be good guys, cause there are way too many bad guys out there.

I here ya.

Update:
As any of the LEO's here know, the system takes FOREVER. My next step is the Oral Board Interview, which I have scheduled for the end of next month (Oct). It sucks that it's so far away, but good that I made it to that point. Almost no one else did. I'm sure I'll blow 'em away in the interview.
