I was asked this question today, what are the best knives for the beach, surfing/just being in sandy places. The only knives I would think of was the spyderco h1 salt. So what are some good beach knives, although generally I dont think a knife is necessary on a beach, but a guess a knife with a yellow handle would be fine.

I'd just go ahead and get a fixed blade if theres any legit concern about it getting overly sandy. sand'll jack up pretty much any pivot I do believe

I've carried my Strider PT for all my beach adventures--mostly salt water fly fishing, but including snorkling. It works great and has held up without problem.

I bring a BK11 - it's relatively cheap, mulitple carry options, no pivot to get sandy, and (best of all) a bottle opener for the Dos Equis. As long as it's cleaned off at the end of the day it's fine.

Another vote for the Griptilian H2O. Mine has been my go-to saltwater fishing knife. The X15TN steel is extremely corrosion resistant.

I used a couple of H1 Spyderco folders (Spyderhawk and Tasman) in my last trips to the beach, but sand got everywhere. Next time, I'll bring fixed blades. Getting sand out of pinned folding knives is a pain in the behind.

Fixed blade dive knife would be the best for a beach... No moving parts, no small crevices for sand to get stuck.

Helloooooo! You must bring a SAK to the beach. How else are you going to help bikini-clad young ladies open their beers and wine? Duh?

I got canoe dunked in Lake Erie wearing a Strider SnG...multiple times in a row (I found out that I'm not a canoe expert:D)
Just clean the knife after. Any knife that can be disassembled can have annoying sand removed easily enough, and all stainless steels are stain resistant enough for most conditions.

Usually the only times im without a blade is when I'm hanging on the sand. I spend lots of time fishing from a boat in salt water and H1 is superb in salt water environments but sand is a killer to folders, H1 or not. If I were going to use a folder in sandy conditions, I go with knife that is quick and easy to break down and clean and the best knife I can think of for that would be an Emerson.
