do bead blast finishes need more care for rust resistance? How about a daily swipe of tuff cloth or a weekly flitzing would that do it. Supposedly it rust easier but i find no rusting on mine

Paul, please try using the search function as it's a much more efficient way to get a load of relevant replies on common topics and it helps improving the readability of the forum because the thread list won't be cluttered up with questions that have been asked numerous times in the past.

very frustrating when you get hit by a search nazi especially that the search doesn't work for all items. Its as good as hijacking a thread in my opinion.

A daily swipe of Tuf-Cloth would be very excessive. Weekly or monthly would be more appropriate, but still not needed.

If the blade is stainless, you shouldn't worry about rust at all unless you live in a marine environment, or do not wipe the blade dry after it gets wet.

Yes, even stainless steel can rust, and use bead blasting can make a blade more apt to rust since moisture can get trapped in the pits, but you shouldn't worry about preventing rust unless you plan on cutting oranges and then not washing and wiping the blade down well.

For water and hand moisture, you don't even really need to wipe the blade off.

Depends on how the bead blast was done, most common is with an abrasive like Aluminum oxide or glass beads which break down rapidly and cut into the steel. Those tend to leave a very rough and open surface that rusts readily. Ceramic bead blasting is more like shot peening, and tends to seal over the metal pores more than it opens them up, thus sometimes improving corrosion resistance compared to a satin finish(and is always better than an abrasive blast).

Uhm...why was this brought BTTT after almost six months?

beera,
are you too lazy to read the FAQ? Of course posting a thread so that others take the time to explain stuff to you is much more comfortable (for you) than doing a quick search.

By the way, instead of complaining about me asking newbies (like you) to use the search function instead of opening the 1,000th thread on a common subject, you might want to consider contributing something worthwhile to the forums.
