is there a way to get a bead blast finish to become a mirror finish? i would imagine using various grades of sandpaper would get it shiny, but what compounds would one use to make it really shine?

any high grit stropping compound should do it. I would sand it up to 2000 or 3000 grit and then try some 9000+ grit buffing/stropping compound and that should do it. However it will show fingerprints and scratches like crazy and will take forever to sand them out, i would not mirror finish a user knife.

hmmm
i just thought of the idea because i've never had a knife with a mirror finish :)
guess i'll pass :(
maybe try it on an unfinished piece of metal just for the practice

You could sand it to kinda like semi-satin. Leave some scratches on the blade so that you could say it's part of the finish ;)
