bead blast vs Satin Finish

I am about to purchase a sebenza and have a question regarding blade finishes. should I opt for the satin finish or the bead blast which is standard on the Std. Large Sebenza. Also is the Bead blast finish hollow ground like the satin. Which finish would be tougher and hold an edge longer. Thanks, Dave Halliday

I hate to be the one to tell you and if I am wrong I am sorry but the Sebenza doesn't come in either beadblast or satin finish. Stonewash finish is standard and you can have the hollow grind high polished as an option. Someone correct me if I am wrong. :)

The stone wash finish is hollow ground too. Both will hold an edge the same, it is just a difference of looks.

I found that after I had sharpen my Sebbie a few times, it was sharper and started holding an edge longer. I use the Sharpemaker. Don't get me wrong, they come sharp but they get better with use. My advise if this is going to be a real user like it sounds that you want is to get the standard plain stone washed finish. I am very happy with mine. You won't worry over scratching it up like a high polish.

If you get the Sebbie, go ahead and get a Sharpmaker at the same time and touch it up occationally as you use it. That way it won't become dull and hard to sharpen. It will always be wicked sharp.

Good advice, but I prefer the satin finish.

Thank you for your responses. What kind of a sharpener is a sharpmaker and where can I order one. thanks, dave

The sharpmaker is by Spyderco, it is called the "Sharpmaker 204."
Any online knife shop that carries Spyderco should have the Sharpmaker.

I touch up my Small regular every once in a while (before it gets really dull) and that keeps it shaving sharp!
