Can I get some feedback on the difference between bead blasted Canvas Micarta vs. G10.

Please keep the discussion specific to only these two materials. My understanding is that G10 is superior in durability to canvas micarta, but the difference is not practical for most human use. (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

I am interested in

-the overall feel of Canvas Micarta vs. G10. Is there a clear favorite for people when it comes to texture and feel?

-how do the two compare with oil absorption? I've read that micarta tends to absorb oil from one's hand more than G10. Is this relevant for anything?

-how do the two compare in grip/texture and stability of hold when maneuvering with the knife?

any other info would be much appreciated. Thank you much.

If it's relevant for anything, I'm comparing the two materials as they would appear on an Al Polkowski custom knife.

I have found that I like the feel of canvas micarta better. I wouldn't call it soft, but it seems to offer a more "textured" feel to me. The G10 always feels hard and the texturing sharp.

My understanding is that the materials are very close, so it may be the individual knives I've handled- although I've got Busses in both materials so that should be a good comparison. I feel like the micarta gives me a better grip as well.

Micarta, as found on knife handles, and G10 are both reinforced epoxy resin. The durability will be dependent on exactly what epoxy resins were used for each. For knife handles, you won't be able to tell any difference in durability.

For all the other questions YMMV applies. It is personal preference as to what feels good to you.

G- 10 is extremely dense, more so than canvas micarta. And is therefore heavier. Both materials are durable enough for extreme use. Both can be blasted for a rough texture finish. IME, canvas micarta shows off its swirly grain much more than G10, if that matters for the owner. As of late G- 10 cost more than canvas micarta. But I don' t know if that is reflected in the makers overall price. If you are concerned with having what would come close to an absolute grip, you might try checkering the entire set of scales.

I prefer canvas micarta over the G10. I think it feels softer AND warmer. As for absorbtion, the canvas is fully impregnated with the resin, so any absorbtion is just on the surface. Another plus for the micarta is it gets grippier when it's wet, the G10 seems to stay the same.
