I knew better but bought a bead blasted knife with 154cm the other, made one deer hunt and it rained and one duck hunt in the marsh bright and sunny. The thing is rusting already. Too much humidity here thats why I always buy satin or mirrored finish as they don't rust on me down here. Anyway is it possible to take a bead blasted blade to satin or mirrored finish or is there someone on here that does that? If so who are they and how do I contact them.

Thanks

is the blade a hollow grind or flat grind?

i have a knife made from 154 cm and it has a bead blasted finish also. it has never showed any signs of rust or even anything close and i have had it laying around wet cutting up deer and its even been used to cut up salmon and left dirty for over half a day. maybe your knife is not 154 cm.

Not all 'bead blast' finishes are created equal. 154CM or not, any steel can rust under the right (or wrong) conditions. A certain prominent & popular maker around here, found that out with some of their bead-blasted blades with Sandvik stainless, which otherwise has an excellent reputation. It's much less about the steel itself, and more about the specific (proprietary) finish on those specific knives.

In the short-term, you can always just sand the blade with wet/dry sandpaper, in maybe 600 grit & higher, to put your own satin finish on it. The higher grit you use, and the finer the finish, the less likely you'll have as much trouble with rust, especially on that steel. 154CM/ATS-34 are almost bulletproof (rust-wise) at very high polish. Should still do better with anything other than a bead-blast finish, though, even if it's just a medium/high satin.

if your only concern is rust protection a good metal polish (flitz or whatever can polish metal) on a rag and some elbow grease will shine up most bead blasted finishes enough to help against corrosion. a buffer will be faster but be very carefull when buffing a live blade.

it worked on my leek that used to rust on me after a hot service in the kitchen, just by staying in my pocket under the apron

Thanks to all who responded I'm going to get the manf. to replace the blades with satin blades.
