Anyone know of any cheap blasting rigs anywhere. I seen a $40 rig in Northern Tool, don't know if it will do the job or not.

I am also looking for the same thing so i will be very interested in the answer. I sam one at northern tool for $179 that looked pretty good. Anyone used this one?

I have one that I bought from Harbor Freight about two years ago for, if I remember right, $65.00. It works just fine for me. I would like to pass on this piece of advice Indian George posted that worked out good for me. He recommend when you buy one, get one with a hopper bottom, not the flat bottomed kind. With the pickup tube in the bottom of the hopper I've never run out of media, plus it's easier to change out the media.

Several models are on sale quite often at Harbor Freight. I own one and you can not beat their price. Most brands are made in China, same as Harbor Freight anyway. I bought a really nice one for $99, which normally sales for $169 I believe. Stores will honor any online sale price. Just a cabinet with plexiglass to hold sand, so you are right in not investing much in one.

Has anyone ever used one of the units that use sodium sulfate as media? The smallest unit in that line goes for about $250 and have been used for stripping finish from detail work on antique furniture. They would probably be a very gentle abrasive when used on metal.

I think I got the same one Satchmo did. One thing that is very worthwhile that I didn't think would be, is a light inside the cabinet. I ended up clamping the siphon tube in the bottom of the tank to keep it in the media.

One other thing - you will need a lot of air!

So then really the whole rig is a sand blasting setup, just the media is different. Is the gun the same to.

I got the big one from Grizzly, which stands alone. I use 120x ceramic beads in that one. I also have a smaller bench model which shoots silicon carbide.
