whats the general consensus, gents? ive been looking at them for some time now, online that is, but have never seen in person. i like the looks of some of them, and they give me that vibe of classic but style tradition, without the new age buck from overseas type hit or miss storm cloud over my head. thoughts?

I returned mine. It was low quality, had blade play.... etc. To me, not worth it. I'd rather spend the money on a Case, or a USA Buck.

They give "made in USA" a bad name. Every piece I've seen by them was the sloppiest piece of work I could imagine. I wish I could like them, but I can't. I just...REALLY can't. :thumbdn::(

Well thank you guys for possibly saving saving me from a BIG mistake. Thank jeebus for this forum.

I have a Bear stockman and it is very well made. As good as any Case or Buck stockman
I've owned or handled. I would get another one in a minute.

I don't think Case has made a knife since Zippo bought them out? I thought they have contracted all their knives out for production for years - I wrote them a couple of times with questions & they answered me - Then I ask them if they contracted their knives out & I haven't heard a word? Not a peep! I also ask them if they contracted some of their liners & scales out to a company in the US who in turn had the liners & scales made in China - then sold back to Case supplier - again no answer? They fly the USA flag but i'm not so sure thats 100% true I think they back door some stuff - any one know?

I gave my dad a damascus and stag fixed blade with a guthook from bear and son (his pick). I am surprised at the quality of the fit and finish, but I am not fond of the design. Looks like his is one of the better ones.

I want to like B&S since they are American made, but years of looking at their knives in stores and at shows, has left me at the point that I would never even consider buying one online.

Some of the most inconsistent quality control and sloppy assembly I've seen.

Uh... I don't know how this was brought up, but I have no clue. I have never heard even once that they send out their liners and scales. The scales, possibly because of the exotic stags and bones they use. But the liners? Again, let us stay on topic. Maybe you should start a thread for this>

Been to the factory, seen the knives come out of it. Your answer is a resounding NO.

Wow, judging from the replies, I guess maybe you shouldn't get one... seems like I got the only 2 flawless ones in existence, although I haven't noticed anything wrong with the ones that make it to the shops here in Alabama, where they're made, either. They're certainly in the same league as similarly priced and often more expensive brands I've seen and own.

your right - my bad - i was just thinking out loud - hell to get old - but we got an answer - back to B&S - Years ago I customized and engraved a lot of them but for some reason they just quit showing up for me to work on - so maybe at some point the QC just went away - I had good luck with them way back - but like i said it's been a long time - tom

I have two fixed blades. One is flawless and the other, which was given to me, has terrible fit and finish.

I have a lock back sod buster that I got from SMKW for $25. Total crap!!!! A $1 Frost knife is better!!! Stay away from them! They give made in USA a very bad name!!!
