just saw an ad for Bear and Son our to Jacksonville, Al. is this a take on Schrade or is this really a Mr. Bear making knives?

Albert Baer of Schrade history.
Bear and Sons (previously Bear MCG) knives.

Notice the spelling difference. No association, as far as I know.

But some of the Taylor Schrades have been contract made by Bear and Sons.

Confused yet? :D

A natural mistake. Baer is German for Bear. Thus the proliferation of "bear" names on Baer's knives. But Bear and Sons is a different company with it's own relatively modern history. They did make some Schrade patterns like the Sharpfinger and some slipjoints after Schrade went under. I understand they were of decent quality. And some used premium handle cover materials like bone and stag. I always meant to pick one up for the Sharpie collection but never got a round tuit.
