I was wondering what everyone's opinion of the bear and sons line of slip joint knives, was in particular the bone stag knives. They look interesting but are priced higher than other competing lines.I know that they are american made and I don't mind paying a little more to support american traditional cutlery companies. On another note my local Lowe's store has stoped selling Case xx knives which is disturbing, has anyone else noticed this in your local Lowe's?I have been more aware of changes in the industry since the loss of Schrade, and I hope this isn't starting a downward trend for case.If you have any Bear and ons knives I would appreciate any comments you may have.

I have a couple Bear MGC pocketknives, same company prior to a name change.

The workmanship on the knives is quite good. No loose blades, nice edges, and the locks feel sturdy. However, Bear has a reputation for using very cheap steel. I haven't tested the knives' usability myself, but have seen firsthand that the steel can be very, very soft. A friend tried to use a Bear MGC lightweight lockback for cleaning a deer - the serrations actually bent over sideways.

A year or so back I bought one of their 4-blade stockman knives as I collect such things. The one I received from SMKW was less than a classy pocketknife to put it mildly. It wasn't fit all that well, one of the blades was off kilter enough it had cut into one of the side liners, and it had edges nearly as good as your average butter knife.
I sat down, filled out the warrenty card, and wrote a nice letter to the Bear boys explaining the situation. To the moment I write these words I've yet to receive the courtesy of an answer. Such lazy insolence from a company I've bought a product from puts them on my shiq list for the rest of their natural born lives. If they were too lazy to write a letter, or too lazy to pick up a phone to call me at the number I gave them to do so, it is my belief they're too stupid to deserve any more of my money for their rather shoddy and cheaply made knives. If the knife I have is the best they can do we won't have them around to long anyways.

I don't like what I am hearing I think I will stick to case and queen.thanks for your input.
