I managed to throw away the box, but after 3 long hard years of use, my handles are starting to crack. I was just wondering if I could send it in for repairs.

Or should I just make up a new set of handles?

Why bother, jus throw it in the trash. I gave mine to my dad for fathers day

Well I have a heavy set of jag handles that would do nicely on it then.

I know that Bear isn't the best in the world, but still I like to play with it a lot better than the china cheepies.

see if those bm42 handles on bladeauction will fit. that'd be nice.

thats funny, that is the opposite problem of most filipino handmade knives where the pin comes out by accident too easily. Maybe you could try heating the surrounding metal and cooling the pin at the same time. You would have to use pliers to get the pin out. Come to think of it, bear pins are extra large arent they? you should probably just try to file it down, or maybe file you other handles down.

when you get the pin out (if you do), or if you just need to reinstall a tang pin - the middle pin) for any reason you could use part of a nail or a piece of stiff wire to replace the pin and get it to set using the hot cold technique (gently heat the blade - no fire - and cool the pin, find a way). Stiff wire works good here because the sizes of wire used can be varied to fit the percise hole tolerance.

An easy alternative is to take the metal peice you will use, cut a peice of packing tape to be the width of this new pin and maybe 5 times as long, the length will vary depending on how much space you need to take up to keep the pin lodged in the hole. Roll the tape around the pin keeping it smooth, no curls or creases. Stick it through the hole, you will want it tight so it is okay to use pliers or other pressure. Once this pin with tape is inserted and even(not all of it need remain right now) carefully cut off the tape that is hanging out from around the pin. You should have a tight fit for awhile.

Yeah, better to just try to fix it yourself as Bear has horrible CS as far as I am concerned. I perfer to play with china cheapies any day over a Bear now.

Yah I would have to agree. Bears are awful and a sorry use of the made in USA symbol.
