I just picked up a new Bear MGC Damascus Trapper from the bay at a reasonable price. I like everything about it except for the Delrin (plastic) scales. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone that can rescale this knife in something more classy? I was thinking a nicely figured walnut but I will listen to any suggestions.

Are you sure the scales are Delrin? Putting plastic scales on a damascus knife seems a bit odd. Even for Bear. Do you have a picture of the knife that you could post? Bear often puts "genuine India stag bone" on their damascus knives, which is bone that has been jigged to simulate stag, sorta like Case's "bone stag".

As for replacement scales, my vote goes for ebony. But for what you'd pay for somebody to put new scales on that knife, you could probably buy something new and/ or better.

You'll find rescaling a knife will more often than not cost more than the knife itself. Bear Knives aren't too high quality anyway, I would save rescaling for a better knife.
