Bear Den

Tough crowd 62 looksees and no comments.Oh well!
There isnt a commercial like I 1st stated.was wrong
Today the bear left the den went out and brought back a fir branch for bedding or for giving birth? This site is from northern MN mostly when you look she is just moving slightly
It was reported that a snow machine drove by-you could hear it on the camera the bear woke up and followed the noise with her ears and swivelled her head.Interesting insight to a bears life

It's not loading right now for me, but I think those wildlife webcams are pretty cool. I'll check back at the site later.

Dan I will have to try it tomorrow when is is light there and see what i can see. Right now it looks like a pine branch is blocking any view. Could be interesting to watch. Thanks Doug

I checked it out yesterday, but couldnt make out the bear. Looked at it again 5 min ago, and there she is, a big lump of sleeping black fur.

I think timing it right and watching the birth live is going to come down to luck, could be a real cool thing to watch!

Reading the posts, I thought this was from northern New Mexico....
This site is from northern NM

Once I clicked I realized it is the same one my co-worker was talking about.:p
Quote below from the web site:
This Black Bear den is near Ely in Northeastern Minnesota, USA, less than 30 miles from the Canadian border.

I can make out a foot and see large breathing blob.
1084 viewers at 0628 this AM.:)

edited to add:
Just after posting, I checked the cam again and saw some movement. A hind foot came out of the "blob" and scratched her head.
As of 0630 this AM, you seeing her left side. Her head is covered by the balsam branch sticking out.

From what I just read on the site page she gave birth this morning. I am trying to see different videos of the birth now. Doug

Are you guys able to see the live feed? Its not loading right now, i suspect its because of the thousands of people trying to see it at the same time.

She did give birth and it was LIVE on the CAM! :) Too bad I didn't get to see it! That was the first a live birth was broadcast on a cam from a den like that! COOL! :) Not to mention, they aren't all that far from me! ;)

They had the video guy Doug that is doing the filming on the Today show and there is a link to watch the report from the Today on the right side. Doug

This live camera is awesome, and even more so because I just had a very strangely similar bear experience, parallel to this one in MN.

On Tuesday morning this week my doggie Jorja went on her daily walk-about and when she failed to return I went looking for her. After several minutes I found her sitting by a large debris pile on my property, made of branches, tree limbs, grass and dirt. I noticed that Jorja's head was cocked and one ear was up as if she was listening to something.

I walked over to Jorja and I saw her looking into an oval shaped opening in the debris pile. I could only see about one foot into the opening, then only darkness, because the sunlight hadn't yet reached inside. I heard high pitched muffled grunting sounds of two or three little ones coming from within. At first I thought it might be a coyote or fox den with babies but I was pretty sure that this ain't the birthing season.

Well, I was perplexed as to what animals were inside and not wanting to disturb the scene anymore I tip-toed away with my dog, and we walked home.

Later that day I told the wife of my interesting encounter, so she decided to investigate for herself. She came back shortly and all excited, explaining that she saw the opening, heard the vocalizings, and within the den she saw the dark backside of a bear. The bear apparently had situated her body in this fashion in order to block the opening.

Now I realized that the darkness I observed was probably the dark flanks of the bear. Anyways, this was a really cool encounter for us......... and now, we anxiously await the spring.
