I just picked up the Gerber Bear Grylls Scout folder from Wally World yesturday. They said they were only going to have a limited run in the store. Now even though I don't like Gerber or Chinese made knives, I though I'd try one out since it was only $20. The Scout is the the middle sized Bear folder. The smaller having no pocket clip and the larger too (But comes with a folder sheath). The blade has a nice hollow grind reaching a length of about 3.25". The handle (about 4") is plastic with a rubber over mold that feels good in the hand. Dual thumb studs and a lever lock complete this folder. Lock-up is tight with no blade play. The pocket clip sits high allowing for tip down deep pocket carry. The handle/pocket clip are put together with Torx screws. The blade has a dark coating and is part serrated. The steel is 7cr17. After looking up the steel type I saw that it's identical to 440A. Thusday evening I used the knife to cut strings and plastic banding. The blade kept it's razor sharp edge after all of that work. Later when I arrived home I sharpened a stake from a stick I found in my yard. Again the blade was able to shave hair off my arm. For $20 you can't go wrong with the bear Grylls Scout knife.
