Anyone have info on the Bear Damascus bladed knives? My only example is a 'sale' priced Bowie from a common TN knife source. While their knives are certainly quite utilitarian in general, the Damascus is an initial interest to me due to it's micro-sawtooth like edge. It is my assumption that the edge will continue to cut, albeit in a sawing rather than a shearing motion, long after it's 'edge' appears dull. Any validity to this? If so, it would seem to be a decent 'survival' knife. What's the general consensus on Bear knives?

Another great interest to me - they are made 'up the road' in Jacksonville, AL. I do have a few SS Bear knives, too - and that one Damascus Bowie...

No. At least not in comparison to other steels in general. This micro sawtooth action can come from big carbides in high alloy steels though.

I have some experience with the damascus blades offered by Parker Cutlery & Case. It's my understanding the material all comes from the same source. If you're happy with 440A, 420, etc., then you'll probably be happy with the damascus as well. But they heat treat it too soft for my liking.

Boker & a couple other German makers used to offer (still do?) several traditional patterns with pattern welded blades at reasonable prices that may have more potential, but I don't have much user experience with those.
