Bear Skinner

It is a 172UH. I have one with the box and it is a schrade-walden. Don't know if they called it a Bear Skinner after the drop of walden though.

According to Dale Vincent on AAPK the 172UH "Wildcat" produced from 1990-1993 was a linerlock, in other words, a folder, not a fixed blade. I am confused by this discrepancy, as there is a fixed blade Schrade Walden 172UH Bear Skinner with good photos of knife and box on eBay right now. Either somebody has their information wrong, or something changed with the pattern designation between 1973 and 1990.

John,
I am that Dale Vincent who posted that list on AAPK.
Like many of us who love knives, one forum is not enough.

My listing for the 172UH as a linerlock is in error. It should read:
Wildcat- 9-1/2" OAL fixed blade with 5" clip blade Also made in 1971-1973 and called Bear Skinner

This was a listing error on my part.
I am still finding errors in those lists. There is a update coming soon.
If you find any more errors in either the Uncle Henry or the Old Timer list, please email me & I will correct them.

There were several knives in the Uncle Henry line whose names were changed:

127Uh, Lockblade was called Folding Hunter Lockblade in 1988, the last year it was made.
172UH was called the Bear Skinner in 1971-1973 & called Wildcat from 1990-1993.
834UH was introduced 1989 as the Trailmaster and was changed to Rancher in 1990.
885UH was known as the King Ranch from 1970-2001. The name was changed to Senior Ranch in 2002-2004.

Sorry for the confusion,
Dale Vincent

Dale: Thank you for the clarification and update work. It is a mind boggling job figuring out all the pattern changes over the years, but somebody has to do it, and it looks like you're elected! Keep up the good work, and the rest of us will pitch in and help as needed. Now if I could only find a few more pockets for the rest of these knives...
