Just found this knife, made in the USA, D2, 8 inch blade, full tang, a little over $200. It all sounds a little too good to be true What’s the catch? Is this company legit?

Is what legit? Bear has been around for years. Quality and QC may not be up to some peoples standards though. They've always been a bit on the lower end of the production knife scale.

In what way is their QC suboptimal? Do you have any personal/second hand experience on that?

I've seen that some of their knives have fit an finish issues, gaps joints for example. On the other hand I have one Bear & Sons knife wihich is simply stellar. So it tends to be a bit of a crap shoot.

I bought a Bear & Sons sodbuster a few years ago just out of interest, wasn't impressed. The CV steel is fine but the fit and finish is poor, opening/closing gritty. Wouldn't buy another.
