Just picked up these Bear & Son Sangria Jigged Bone knives. Fourth generation, apparently. I collect red knives, mostly from CaseXX, but thought these looked interesting. Look beautiful. There is supposed to be a Stockman too, but I guess it's not available yet. Also, the color is called maroon sometimes. This is new for 2023.

Your impressions please.

I'm not that familiar with Bear & Son knives. They are cheaper than CaseXX. As I said, they look fantastic. The deep red color is very attractive. I don't see any obvious build quality issues. They are tight to open up. And they are sharp. They come in a little velvet pouch. They are made in USA. Not stainless steel. I believe they are exclusive to the company in Tennessee, which I don't know if I can mention. They are shown in their catalog. The Stockman is shown in the catalog but not on the website. I don't know how long they'll stand up as users.

Edit: I really bought them for the gorgeous color and to have something from Bear and Son in my collection. I bought wine based on color once. Not a good strategy.

Thanks!

I've long been a critic of Bear. I have to admit, though ...... last year I got a Moore Maker-branded single-blade mini trapper with a linerlock that was manufactured by Bear. It's pretty dang nice. Maybe they've stepped up their game.

Hope so.

I have a Barlow waiting for me when I get home from my vacation. I'm hoping it's a good one

Every Bear & Son knife I've received has had a recurved blade, whether it's supposed to or not, and I am not a fan of recurves even when they're intentional.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: up the attention-to-detail by 10% and I'll gladly pay 50% more than the current prices -- but I want no gaps and no recurves.

If they would up their quality I think they could be a serious contender, maybe even just with a premium line. I really liked the look of their new Beer-Tender, something about it seemed.....GEC-y, without being GEC. When I handled it in person I wasnt blown away. Next time I am at the store that has it, I may just grab one and see how I like it over time. I would love for them to gain market share.

How is the action and spring strength on the trapper?

One of the best bear and son knives I have. I love the color of the bone, the action is pretty good and there's no gaps on mine. The pen blade isn't rubbing the liner like their Barlows normally do. The only problem is this crack in the bone, I'm pretty happy with it for under $40

I'm going to have to sample the Sangria.

If my Old Timer Generational series 5OTG Bruin is any indication, I'd say B&S has indeed upped their game.
